I used to listen to the BBC World Service about the Middle East.&nbsp; I also loved the music from that part of the world, and I probably was listening to the Quran being recited, but did not know it at the time.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">As I grew older, I continued to listen to the BBC World Service.&nbsp; Back then, they had a program called Words of Faith in which they had a five- to eight-minute talk given by a different religious speaker each day of the week representing all the major religions in the United Kingdom.&nbsp; Out of all the speakers, the Muslims were the ones I loved listening to most.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Every time the Muslim representative spoke, I wanted to find out more about Islam.&nbsp; My impression of the religion was that the person who practices Islam is a happy person, not like the mean people portrayed by the American media.&nbsp; I just refused to believe people that loved Allah so much could be like the people portrayed by the media.&nbsp; Because I come from a Jewish background, the thing that united me with Islam was the belief that Allah had no partners.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Work in the United Kingdom<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">An important time in my life came when I met a real Muslim, but did not know it yet.&nbsp; I was doing contracting computer programming work in New York State when I had a strong urge to visit the United Kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I visited London and loved it.&nbsp; During my visit, I went to several employment agencies without luck.&nbsp; One of the agencies gave me several trade magazines.&nbsp; When I arrived back in the States, I started to send more CV&rsquo;s to companies and other agencies listed in the magazines.&nbsp; I returned to the United Kingdom because one of the companies wanted to interview me.&nbsp; Then I started to visit more companies and agencies until I landed a position even though I was on a visitor&rsquo;s visa.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The company that hired me applied for a work permit for me and the Department of Employment told me that I had to leave the country in order for the paperwork to be processed.&nbsp; Again, I went back to the States.&nbsp; Another agency obtained a temporary work permit and employed me for a company called LogoTech, which, at that time, was located in Egham, Surrey.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Meeting a Real Muslim for the First Time<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Some time after I started working at LogoTech, I found out that my supervisor, Anis Karim, was Muslim.&nbsp; I asked him if he knew how I could get a copy of the Quran.&nbsp; To my surprise, he obtained a copy of the Quran for me within a few days.&nbsp; He also asked me to pledge that I would have a bath before I read from the Quran<a title=\" Although this is not something recommended, this Muslim happened to think so &ndash; IslamReligion.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.islamreligion.com\/articles\/615\/#_ftn9839\">[1]<\/a>&nbsp;and that I would never show it to anyone who might make blasphemous remarks about it.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">The next day, I took my morning bath and made breakfast.&nbsp; Then, while eating breakfast, I started to read.&nbsp; Later I found out that &ldquo;read&rdquo; is what Allah had the Angel Gabriel instruct our beloved Prophet to do, even though he could not read or write!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Well, words can&rsquo;t describe how I felt when I read just that small portion of the world&rsquo;s most holy book.&nbsp; It took only 10 pages, when, at that point, I told myself that this religion was for me.&nbsp; This occurred around 1990.&nbsp; The more I read, the more I wanted to know, and I loved what I was reading.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">At the time, I did not know anything about how to pray or any of the details of Islam.&nbsp; If Anis had invited me to go the masjid in London, I would have gone with him.&nbsp; The only thing I knew about praying to Allah was the prostration position.&nbsp; At the time, I knew that Muslims prayed several times a day, and so I started to do so at night before I went to bed and in the morning when I woke up.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Back to the States Again<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">When the work permit ran out, I had to return to the States and was unemployed for several years.&nbsp; I visited my father in Huntsville, Alabama, and created a database application for him.&nbsp; I saw that Huntsville was a high-tech cosmopolitan city and decided to try to land a programming position there.&nbsp; My father told me that if I did not get a position, I would have to go back to New Jersey to my mother, who had moved from New York to New Jersey.&nbsp; About a fortnight before I was going to go back to New Jersey, I landed a programming position at a company in Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">My First Trip to a Masjid<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">My sister and I were planning a trip to Indonesia because we had a pen pal on the Internet.&nbsp; My sister asked me if I could help her find Islamic jewelry as a gift.&nbsp; At that time I had no idea that there were Muslims in Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Then Allah put things into place for me.&nbsp; I remembered that there was a shop called Crescent Imports, which I thought was run by Muslims.&nbsp; It was not.&nbsp; It was run by the group called Nation of Islam.&nbsp; Now here is the strange part that only Allah could have arranged.&nbsp; We spoke to the owner of the shop and told him that we wanted to find Islamic jewelry.&nbsp; He directed us to the Huntsville Islamic Center.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I do thank Allah for having them direct me to the masjid.&nbsp; We went to the building, but there was only one car parked there.&nbsp; I spoke to a man in the car, and he told us that we should speak to the imam about where to find the jewelry.&nbsp; I was still afraid to go into the building because for me, it was such a sacred place.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">At the moment, I remembered one day when I saw a lady at work wearing a hijab.&nbsp; I told her about accepting Islam personally and she said, &ldquo;Why don&rsquo;t you visit the masjid in Huntsville?&rdquo; &nbsp;I eventually went back to the masjid after I summed up enough courage to go into that sacred place.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I spoke to the imam, and he invited me to perform salah with the Muslim brothers.&nbsp; This was a turning point in my life.&nbsp; I loved it and started to visit the masjid once a week at night.&nbsp; Then I started to visit it several times a week at night.&nbsp; The urge to come more times was stronger and I now perform most of my prayers at the masjid, except `Asr and Maghrib prayers when I am at work.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">I Officially Accepted Islam<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">In November of 1996, I publicly made Shahadah.&nbsp; At work, I pray Zhuhr and Asr by myself or with other Muslim brothers in a small mosque in my work place.&nbsp; I proudly carry my prayer rug in the hallways at my work in an attempt to get people to ask me what they are.&nbsp; Sol&iacute;a escuchar el reporte internacional de la BBC sobre el Medio Oriente. Tambi&eacute;n, me encantaba la m&uacute;sica de esa parte del mundo, y probablemente estuve escuchando las recitaciones del Cor&aacute;n, aunque en aquel entonces no sab&iacute;a qu&eacute; era.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">A medida que fui creciendo, continu&eacute; escuchando el reporte internacional de la BBC. Entre todos los oradores, a los que m&aacute;s me gustaba escuchar era a los musulmanes.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Cada vez que el representante musulm&aacute;n hablaba, yo quer&iacute;a averiguar m&aacute;s acerca del Islam. Mi impresi&oacute;n acerca de la religi&oacute;n era que la persona que practicaba el Islam era una persona feliz, no como los retrataban en los medios de comunicaci&oacute;n norteamericanos. Me negaba a creer que gente que amaba tanto a Dios pudiera ser como la que describ&iacute;an los medios. Como provengo de una familia jud&iacute;a, me un&iacute;a a los musulmanes el creer en la unidad absoluta de Dios, sin compa&ntilde;eros ni asociados.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Trabajando en Gran Breta&ntilde;a<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Un momento importante en mi vida fue cuando conoc&iacute; a un musulm&aacute;n de verdad, aunque no lo sab&iacute;a. Yo estaba haciendo un contrato de trabajo en programaci&oacute;n de sistemas en Nueva York, cuando tuve la urgencia de visitar Gran Breta&ntilde;a.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Visit&eacute; Londres y me encant&oacute;. Durante mi visita, fui a varias agencias de empleo, sin suerte. Una de las agencias me dio varias revistas de comercio. Cuando volv&iacute; a Estados Unidos, comenc&eacute; a enviar mi curr&iacute;culum vitae a m&aacute;s compa&ntilde;&iacute;as y otras agencias que figuraban en la revista. Al final, volv&iacute; a Gran Breta&ntilde;a porque una de las agencias quer&iacute;a entrevistarme. Entonces, comenc&eacute; a visitar m&aacute;s compa&ntilde;&iacute;as y agencias hasta que consegu&iacute; un puesto, a pesar de que estaba con una visa de turista.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">La compa&ntilde;&iacute;a que me contrat&oacute; solicit&oacute; un permiso de trabajo para m&iacute;, y el Departamento de Trabajo me dijo que deb&iacute;a abandonar el pa&iacute;s para procesar los papeles de trabajo. Nuevamente volv&iacute; a Estados Unidos. Otra agencia, llamada LogoTech, obtuvo un permiso de trabajo temporal para m&iacute; y me contrat&oacute; para trabajar en sus oficinas, ubicadas en aquel entonces en Egham, Surrey.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Conoc&iacute; a un musulm&aacute;n por primera vez<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Alg&uacute;n tiempo despu&eacute;s de que comenc&eacute; a trabajar en LogoTech, supe que mi supervisor, Anis Kar&iacute;m, era musulm&aacute;n. Le pregunt&eacute; si &eacute;l sab&iacute;a c&oacute;mo pod&iacute;a conseguir una copia del Cor&aacute;n. Para mi sorpresa, consigui&oacute; una copia para m&iacute; en unos pocos d&iacute;as. Tambi&eacute;n, me hizo prometer que tomar&iacute;a un ba&ntilde;o antes de leer el Cor&aacute;n<sup>1<\/sup>, y que nunca se lo mostrara a nadie que pudiera hacer comentarios ofensivos acerca de &eacute;l.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Al d&iacute;a siguiente, tom&eacute; un ba&ntilde;o e hice mi desayuno. Luego, mientras desayunaba, comenc&eacute; a leerlo. M&aacute;s tarde averig&uuml;&eacute; que &ldquo;Lee&rdquo; es lo que Dios le orden&oacute; a Su amado Profeta a trav&eacute;s del Arc&aacute;ngel Gabriel, &iexcl;a&uacute;n cuando &eacute;l no sab&iacute;a leer ni escribir!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">En resumen, las palabras no pueden describir lo que sent&iacute; cuando le&iacute; s&oacute;lo esa peque&ntilde;a porci&oacute;n del Libro m&aacute;s sagrado en el mundo. Le&iacute; s&oacute;lo diez p&aacute;ginas cuando, en ese punto, me dije a m&iacute; mismo que esta religi&oacute;n era para m&iacute;. Esto sucedi&oacute; en 1990. Cuanto m&aacute;s le&iacute;a, m&aacute;s quer&iacute;a saber, y me encantaba lo que estaba leyendo.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">En ese momento, no sab&iacute;a nada acerca de c&oacute;mo rezar ni ning&uacute;n detalle acerca del Islam. Si Anis me hubiera invitado a la mezquita en Londres, habr&iacute;a ido con &eacute;l. Lo &uacute;nico que sab&iacute;a acerca de c&oacute;mo rezar a Dios era la postraci&oacute;n. En aquel tiempo, sab&iacute;a que los musulmanes rezaban varias veces al d&iacute;a, as&iacute; que comenc&eacute; a hacerlo antes de ir a dormir, y en la ma&ntilde;ana cuando me levantaba.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">De vuelta en Estados Unidos<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Cuando el permiso de trabajo termin&oacute;, tuve que volver a los Estados Unidos, y estuve sin empleo por varios a&ntilde;os. Visit&eacute; a mi padre en Huntsville, Alabama, e hice una aplicaci&oacute;n para bases de datos para &eacute;l. Vi que Huntsville era una ciudad cosmopolita de alta tecnolog&iacute;a, y decid&iacute; intentar conseguir un puesto de programador all&iacute;. Mi padre me dijo que, si no consegu&iacute;a un puesto, tendr&iacute;a que volver a Nueva Jersey con mi madre que se hab&iacute;a mudado de Nueva York. Cerca de quince d&iacute;as antes de que me fuera a Nueva Jersey, consegu&iacute; un puesto de programador en Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Mi primer viaje a la mezquita<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Mi hermana y yo estuvimos planeando un viaje a Indonesia, porque ten&iacute;amos un amigo por correspondencia con el que nos escrib&iacute;amos por internet. Mi hermana me pidi&oacute; que la ayudara a encontrar una joya isl&aacute;mica como regalo. En aquel tiempo yo no ten&iacute;a idea que hab&iacute;a musulmanes en Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Entonces, Dios puso las cosas en su lugar para m&iacute;. Record&eacute; que hab&iacute;a una tienda llamada Crescent Imports, cre&iacute; que estaba regenteada por musulmanes, pero no fue as&iacute;, fue abierta por un grupo llamado&nbsp;<em>Nation of Islam<\/em>. Aqu&iacute; hay algo extra&ntilde;o que s&oacute;lo Dios podr&iacute;a haber arreglado. Hablamos con el propietario de la tienda y le dijimos que quer&iacute;amos encontrar una joya isl&aacute;mica. &Eacute;l nos envi&oacute; al Centro Isl&aacute;mico de Hunstville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Le di gracias a Dios por haberme guiado a la mezquita. Fuimos all&iacute;, pero hab&iacute;a un solo autom&oacute;vil estacionado. Convers&eacute; con el hombre del carro, y &eacute;l nos dijo que deber&iacute;amos hablar con el Imam para saber d&oacute;nde conseguir la joya. Todav&iacute;a ten&iacute;a temor de entrar al edificio, porque para m&iacute; era un lugar sagrado.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">En ese momento, record&eacute; un d&iacute;a en que vi a una mujer en el trabajo llevando su pa&ntilde;uelo sobre la cabeza (hiyab). Je refusais simplement de croire que des personnes qui aimaient tellement Allah puissent &ecirc;tre &agrave; l&rsquo;image de ceux d&eacute;peints dans les m&eacute;dias.&nbsp; Du fait que je venais d&rsquo;un milieu juif,&nbsp; la chose qui me mit en symbiose avec l&rsquo;islam &eacute;tait la croyance qu&rsquo;Allah n&rsquo;avait aucun partenaire dans Sa toute-puissance.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Travail &nbsp;au Royaume-Uni<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">L&rsquo;un des moments importants de ma vie fut ma rencontre avec un vrai musulman, m&ecirc;me si je ne savais pas qu&rsquo;il l&rsquo;&eacute;tait au moment de le rencontrer.&nbsp; J&rsquo;effectuais de la programmation informatique sur contrat, dans l&rsquo;&Eacute;tat de New York, quand je ressentis un d&eacute;sir irr&eacute;sistible de visiter le Royaume-Uni.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Je visitai Londres et j&rsquo;adorai l&rsquo;exp&eacute;rience. &nbsp;Au cours de ma visite, je me rendis dans plusieurs agences de placement, mais sans succ&egrave;s. &nbsp;L&rsquo;une des agences me donna plusieurs magazines de foires commerciales.&nbsp; De retour aux &Eacute;tats-Unis, je commen&ccedil;ai &agrave; envoyer beaucoup de CV aux entreprises et organismes dont j&rsquo;avais trouv&eacute; l&rsquo;adresse dans les magazines. &nbsp;Puis, je re&ccedil;us des nouvelles d&rsquo;une compagnie qui souhaitait me faire passer un entretien, et je retournai au Royaume-Uni.&nbsp; Une fois l&agrave;-bas, je visitai plusieurs autres compagnies et agences de placement jusqu'&agrave; ce que je trouve un emploi, m&ecirc;me si je n&rsquo;avais qu&rsquo;un visa de touriste.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">La compagnie qui me recruta fit une demande de permis de travail pour moi et le Department of Employment me dit que je devais quitter le pays afin que mon dossier puisse suivre son cours.&nbsp; Je rentrai aux &Eacute;tats-Unis. Une autre agence m&rsquo;obtint un permis de travail temporaire pour une compagnie nomm&eacute;e LogoTech, qui &agrave; l&rsquo;&eacute;poque &eacute;tait situ&eacute;e &agrave; Egham, dans le Surrey.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ma premi&egrave;re rencontre avec un musulman<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Quelque temps apr&egrave;s avoir commenc&eacute; &agrave; travailler pour LogoTech, je r&eacute;alisai que mon superviseur, Anis Karim, &eacute;tait musulman. &nbsp;Je lui demandai s&rsquo;il savait o&ugrave; je pouvais me procurer une copie du Coran.&nbsp; &Agrave; ma grande surprise, apr&egrave;s quelques jours, il m&rsquo;en donna lui-m&ecirc;me une copie.&nbsp; Il me fit aussi promettre de prendre un bain avant de le lire et me dit que je ne devais pas le montrer &agrave; quiconque serait susceptible de faire des remarques blasph&eacute;matoires &agrave; son sujet.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Le lendemain, comme d&rsquo;habitude, je pris mon bain matinal et mon petit-d&eacute;jeuner. &nbsp;Puis, je commen&ccedil;ai &agrave; lire en mangeant.&nbsp; Plus tard, je d&eacute;couvris que &laquo;&nbsp;Lis&nbsp;&raquo; est ce qu&rsquo;Allah avait ordonn&eacute; &agrave; l&rsquo;ange Gabriel de dire au proph&egrave;te Mohammed (que la paix et les b&eacute;n&eacute;dictions de Dieu soient sur lui), bien que celui-ci ne s&ucirc;t ni lire ni &eacute;crire!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Les mots ne peuvent d&eacute;crire ce que je ressentis apr&egrave;s avoir lu juste une petite partie du livre le plus saint du monde. &nbsp;Apr&egrave;s avoir lu seulement dix pages, je me dis&nbsp;: &laquo;&nbsp;Cette religion est pour moi&nbsp;&raquo;.&nbsp;&nbsp; C&rsquo;&eacute;tait autour de 1990. &nbsp;Plus je lisais, plus je voulais en savoir, et plus j&rsquo;aimais ce que je lisais.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&Agrave; cette &eacute;poque, je ne connaissais absolument rien sur la fa&ccedil;on de prier et &agrave; part les grandes lignes, j&rsquo;ignorais tout de l&rsquo;islam. &nbsp;Si Anis m&rsquo;avait invit&eacute; &agrave; aller &agrave; la mosqu&eacute;e avec lui, &agrave; Londres, je l&rsquo;aurais accompagn&eacute;. &nbsp;La seule chose que je connaissais sur la pri&egrave;re en islam &eacute;tait la position de prosternation. &nbsp;&Agrave; l&rsquo;&eacute;poque, je savais que les musulmans priaient plusieurs fois par jour; je me mis donc &agrave; prier le soir, avant de me coucher, et le matin &agrave; mon r&eacute;veil.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Retour aux &Eacute;tats-Unis, encore une fois<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Lorsque mon permis de travail expira, je dus rentrer aux &Eacute;tats-Unis, o&ugrave; je restai au ch&ocirc;mage durant plusieurs ann&eacute;es. &nbsp;Je rendis visite &agrave; mon p&egrave;re &agrave; Huntsville, en Alabama, et je cr&eacute;ai une application de base de donn&eacute;es pour lui. Je r&eacute;alisai que Huntsville &eacute;tait une ville cosmopolite &agrave; la fine point de la technologie et je d&eacute;cidai d&rsquo;y chercher un emploi en programmation.&nbsp; Mon p&egrave;re me dit que si je ne trouvais pas d&rsquo;emploi, je devrais retourner au New Jersey, chez ma m&egrave;re.&nbsp; &Agrave; peu pr&egrave;s deux semaines avant que je ne rentre au New Jersey, je trouvai un emploi de programmeur dans une compagnie, &agrave; Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ma premi&egrave;re visite dans une mosqu&eacute;e<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ma s&oelig;ur et moi avions planifi&eacute; un voyage en Indon&eacute;sie, car nous y avions un correspondant sur internet. &nbsp;Ma s&oelig;ur me demanda si je pouvais l&rsquo;aider &agrave; trouver des bijoux islamiques que nous pourrions offrir en cadeaux. &Agrave; l&rsquo;&eacute;poque, je n&rsquo;avais aucune id&eacute;e qu&rsquo;il y avait des musulmans &agrave; Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ensuite, Allah fit en sorte que les choses se mettent en place pour moi.&nbsp; Je me rappelai qu&rsquo;il y avait un magasin qui s&rsquo;appelait Crescent Imports, g&eacute;r&eacute; par des gens que je croyais musulmans (ils ne l&rsquo;&eacute;taient pas, en r&eacute;alit&eacute;).&nbsp; Ce commerce &eacute;tait la propri&eacute;t&eacute; d&rsquo;un groupe qui se faisait appeler Nation of Islam. &nbsp;Maintenant, voici la partie bizarre que seul Allah a pu organiser. Nous discut&acirc;mes avec le propri&eacute;taire du magasin et lui f&icirc;mes savoir que nous cherchions un endroit o&ugrave; acheter des bijoux islamiques. &nbsp;Il nous dirigea alors vers le Centre Islamique de Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Je remercie Allah d&rsquo;avoir fait en sorte qu&rsquo;ils me dirigent vers ce lieu, qui &eacute;tait aussi une mosqu&eacute;e.&nbsp; Il n&rsquo;y avait qu&rsquo;une seule auto gar&eacute;e devant.&nbsp; J&rsquo;engageai la conversation avec un homme assis dans cette voiture et il me dit que nous devrions parler au imam pour savoir o&ugrave; nous procurer les bijoux.&nbsp; J&rsquo;&eacute;tais terrifi&eacute; &agrave; l&rsquo;id&eacute;e d&rsquo;entrer dans le b&acirc;timent car pour moi, c&rsquo;&eacute;tait un lieu tellement sacr&eacute;.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">&Agrave; ce moment, je me rappelai qu&rsquo;un jour, j&rsquo;avais vu une femme, au travail, qui portait un hijab (voile).&nbsp; Je lui avais dit que j&rsquo;avais choisi l&rsquo;islam comme religion &agrave; titre personnel et elle m&rsquo;avait demand&eacute; : &laquo;&nbsp;Pourquoi n&rsquo;allez-vous pas visiter la mosqu&eacute;e, &agrave; Huntsville?&nbsp;&raquo;.&nbsp; Finalement, je pris mon courage &agrave; deux mains; je retournai &agrave; la mosqu&eacute;e et entrai enfin dans ce lieu sacr&eacute;.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Je parlai au imam et il m&rsquo;invita &agrave; accomplir la salah (pri&egrave;re) avec mes fr&egrave;res musulmans. &nbsp;Ce fut un tournant dans ma vie. &nbsp;J&rsquo;adorai l&rsquo;exp&eacute;rience et je commen&ccedil;ai d&egrave;s lors &agrave; visiter la mosqu&eacute;e un soir par semaine.&nbsp; Ensuite, je me mis &agrave; la visiter plusieurs soirs par semaine.&nbsp; Mon d&eacute;sir d&rsquo;y aller plus souvent grandit encore et j&rsquo;accomplis maintenant la plupart de mes pri&egrave;res &agrave; la mosqu&eacute;e, &agrave; l&rsquo;exception des pri&egrave;res du &lsquo;Asr et de Maghrib, durant lesquelles je suis au travail.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2><span style=\"font-size: large;\">J&rsquo;accepte officiellement l&rsquo;islam<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Au cours du mois de novembre 1996, je pronon&ccedil;ai publiquement la shahadah (attestation de foi). &nbsp;Au travail, je prie Zhuhr et Asr tout seul ou en compagnie d&rsquo;autres fr&egrave;res musulmans, dans une petite mosqu&eacute;e am&eacute;nag&eacute;e sur mon lieu de travail.&nbsp; Je porte fi&egrave;rement mon tapis de pri&egrave;re dans les couloirs dans l&rsquo;espoir que les gens me demandent ce que c&rsquo;est.&nbsp; Lorsqu&rsquo;ils me le demandent, je leur dis que je suis musulman et que j&rsquo;utilise ce tapis pour prier. &nbsp;J&rsquo;ai &eacute;galement d&eacute;cor&eacute; mon poste de travail et mon ordinateur de motifs artistiques islamiques. &nbsp;Mon fond d&rsquo;&eacute;cran d&rsquo;ordinateur est habituellement une photo de la Ka&rsquo;bah ou de notre mosqu&eacute;e locale.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Maintenant que je suis musulman, il n&rsquo;est plus question, pour moi, de retourner &agrave; Como venho de um antecedente judaico, o que me unia ao Isl&atilde; era a cren&ccedil;a de que Allah n&atilde;o tem parceiros.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Trabalho no Reino Unido<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Uma &eacute;poca importante na minha vida veio quando encontrei um mu&ccedil;ulmano real, mas n&atilde;o sabia disso ainda.&nbsp; Trabalhava com programa&ccedil;&atilde;o de computadores no estado de Nova Iorque quando senti um grande &iacute;mpeto de visitar o Reino Unido.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Visitei Londres e amei.&nbsp; Durante minha visita fui a v&aacute;rias ag&ecirc;ncias de emprego sem ter sorte.&nbsp; Uma das ag&ecirc;ncias me deu v&aacute;rias revistas de neg&oacute;cios.&nbsp; Quando voltei aos Estados Unidos comecei a enviar mais CVs para as empresas e outras ag&ecirc;ncias listadas nas revistas.&nbsp; Perguntei a ele se sabia como eu poderia conseguir uma c&oacute;pia do Alcor&atilde;o.&nbsp; Para minha surpresa, ele obteve uma c&oacute;pia do Alcor&atilde;o para mim em poucos dias.&nbsp; Tamb&eacute;m me pediu para prometer que tomaria um banho antes de ler o Alcor&atilde;o<a title=\" Embora n&atilde;o seja algo recomendado, esse mu&ccedil;ulmano achava que sim &ndash; IslamReligion.\" href=\"http:\/\/www.islamreligion.com\/pt\/articles\/615\/#_ftn13733\">[1]<\/a>&nbsp;e que nunca o mostraria a algu&eacute;m que pudesse fazer coment&aacute;rios blasfemos relacionados a ele.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">No dia seguinte tomei meu banho matutino e fiz meu caf&eacute; da manh&atilde;.&nbsp; Enquanto tomava o caf&eacute; da manh&atilde;, comecei a ler.&nbsp; Depois descobri que &ldquo;ler&rdquo; foi o que Allah ordenou que o anjo Gabriel instru&iacute;sse nosso profeta a fazer, apesar de ele n&atilde;o poder ler ou escrever!<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Bem, palavras n&atilde;o podem descrever como me senti quando li apenas uma pequena parte do livro mais sagrado do mundo.&nbsp; Levou apenas 10 p&aacute;ginas quando, naquele ponto, disse a mim mesmo que essa religi&atilde;o era para mim.&nbsp; Foi por volta de 1990.&nbsp; Quanto mais lia, mais queria saber, e amava o que estava lendo.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Na &eacute;poca n&atilde;o sabia nada sobre como orar ou quaisquer detalhes do Isl&atilde;.&nbsp; Se Anis tivesse me convidado para ir &agrave; mesquita em Londres, teria ido com ele.&nbsp; A &uacute;nica coisa que sabia sobre orar para Allah era a posi&ccedil;&atilde;o de prostra&ccedil;&atilde;o.&nbsp; Na &eacute;poca, sabia que os mu&ccedil;ulmanos oravam v&aacute;rias vezes ao dia, e comecei a faz&ecirc;-lo &agrave; noite antes de ir para a cama e de manh&atilde; quando acordava.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">De Volta aos Estados Unidos<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Quando o visto de trabalho expirou tive que retornar aos Estados Unidos e fiquei desempregado por v&aacute;rios anos.&nbsp; Visitei meu pai em Huntsville, Alabama, e criei uma aplica&ccedil;&atilde;o de base de dados para ele.&nbsp; Vi que Huntsville era uma cidade high-tech cosmopolita e decidi tentar uma posi&ccedil;&atilde;o de programador.&nbsp; Meu pai me disse que se eu n&atilde;o conseguisse um emprego teria que voltar para minha m&atilde;e, em Nova J&eacute;rsei.&nbsp; Uma quinzena antes de voltar para Nova J&eacute;rsei consegui um emprego de programador em uma empresa em Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Minha Primeira Ida a uma Mesquita<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Minha irm&atilde; e eu est&aacute;vamos planejando uma viagem a Indon&eacute;sia porque t&iacute;nhamos um amigo que fizemos pela internet.&nbsp; Minha irm&atilde; me perguntou se poderia ajud&aacute;-la a encontrar uma j&oacute;ia isl&acirc;mica para levar como presente.&nbsp; Na &eacute;poca n&atilde;o tinha id&eacute;ia de que havia mu&ccedil;ulmanos em Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Ent&atilde;o Allah ajeitou as coisas para mim.&nbsp; Lembrei de que havia uma loja chamada Crescente Importa&ccedil;&atilde;o, que pensei ser administrada por mu&ccedil;ulmanos.&nbsp; N&atilde;o era.&nbsp; Era administrada pelo grupo chamado Na&ccedil;&atilde;o do Isl&atilde;.&nbsp; Aqui &eacute; a parte estranha que somente Allah poderia ter arranjado.&nbsp; Falamos com o dono da loja e dissemos a ele que quer&iacute;amos encontrar uma j&oacute;ia isl&acirc;mica Ele nos encaminhou para o Centro Isl&acirc;mico de Huntsville.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Agrade&ccedil;o a Allah por eles terem me encaminhado para a mesquita.&nbsp; Fomos para o pr&eacute;dio, mas havia somente um carro estacionado l&aacute;.&nbsp; Falei com o homem no carro e ele nos disse que dever&iacute;amos falar com o imame sobre onde encontrar a j&oacute;ia.&nbsp; Continuava com medo de entrar no pr&eacute;dio porque, para mim, era um lugar sagrado.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Lembrei de um dia quando vi uma senhora no trabalho usando um hijab.&nbsp; Disse a ela sobre aceitar o Isl&atilde; pessoalmente e ela disse: &ldquo;Por que n&atilde;o visita a mesquita em Huntsville?&rdquo; Finalmente voltei para a mesquita depois de reunir coragem suficiente para entrar no lugar sagrado.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Falei com o imame e ele me convidou a fazer a ora&ccedil;&atilde;o com os irm&atilde;os mu&ccedil;ulmanos.&nbsp; Esse foi um momento decisivo em minha vida.&nbsp; Amei e comecei a visitar a mesquita uma vez por semana &agrave; noite.&nbsp; Ent&atilde;o comecei a visit&aacute;-la v&aacute;rias vezes por semana &agrave; noite.&nbsp; O &iacute;mpeto de vir mais vezes era mais forte e agora realizava a maioria de minhas ora&ccedil;&otilde;es na mesquita, exceto as ora&ccedil;&otilde;es de Asr e Magrebe, quando estava no trabalho.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Aceitei Oficialmente o Isl&atilde;<\/span><\/h2>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Em novembro de 1996 fiz publicamente minha shahada.&nbsp; Oro Zhur e Asr sozinho ou com outros irm&atilde;os mu&ccedil;ulmanos em uma pequena mesquita em meu local de trabalho.&nbsp; Carrego meu tapete de ora&ccedil;&otilde;es com orgulho nos corredores de meu trabalho, na tentativa de fazer as pessoas me perguntarem o que &eacute;.&nbsp; Quando me perguntam, digo-lhes que sou mu&ccedil;ulmano e que uso o tapete para orar.&nbsp; Minha &aacute;rea de trabalho, inclusive meu computador, &eacute; decorada com ilustra&ccedil;&otilde;es isl&acirc;micas.&nbsp; Meu plano de fundo em meu computador geralmente &eacute; a Caaba ou nossa mesquita.<\/span><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"w-body-text-1\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: large;\">Agora que sou um mu&ccedil;ulmano, n&atilde;o h&aacute;
