{"fatawa":{"id":10843,"title":"Your father\u2019s wife\u2019s mother is not a mahram for you","slug":"your-fathers-wifes-mother-is-not-a-mahram-for-you","order":"","question":"<p>My father took a second wife and it is known that she has become a  mahram for me, but my question is: Has her mother also become a mahram  for me?.<\/p>","answer":"<div class=\"list-group-item-text ftwa-single-answer font-nrmal\"><span class=\"line_height\"> Praise be to Allaah.\r\n<p>The mahrams through      marriage fall into four categories:&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;     The ascendants of the husband      [his father and grandfathers] become mahrams to the wife.<\/p>\r\n<p>2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;     The descendents of the husband      [his sons and grandsons] become mahrams to the wife.<\/p>\r\n<p>3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;     The ascendants of the wife [her      mother and grandmothers] become mahrams to the husband.<\/p>\r\n<p>These three categories      become mahrams as soon as the marriage contract is done.<\/p>\r\n<p>4.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;     The descendants of the wife      [her daughters and granddaughters] become mahrams to the husband. In this      case there must be consummation. Once consummation takes place, then her      daughters from a previous or subsequent husband become mahrams to him      forever.&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>End quote from <em>al-Sharh      al-Mumti&rsquo;<\/em> (12\/128).&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>Thus it is clear that the      mother of the father&rsquo;s wife does not become a mahram for his sons.&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>It is permissible for a man      to marry a woman, and for his son to marry her mother, or her daughter,      because that is included in the words of Allaah, after mentioning the women      who are mahrams (interpretation of the meaning):&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><em>&ldquo;All others are lawful&rdquo;<\/em><\/p>\r\n<p><em>[al-Nisa&rsquo; 4:24]<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p>And Allaah knows best.<\/p>\r\n<\/span><\/div>\r\n<div style=\"padding: 3px; padding-right: 6px; text-align: right;\">Islam Q&amp;A<\/div>","status":1,"created_at":"2015-04-11T20:51:59.000000Z","updated_at":"2015-04-11T20:51:59.000000Z","language_id":1,"fatawacate_id":42,"parent_id":10842,"author_id":"","books":[],"articles":[],"videos":[],"audios":[],"author_name":"","category_name":"\u0627\u0644\u0645\u062d\u0631\u0645\u0627\u062a \u0645\u0646 \u0627\u0644\u0646\u0633\u0627\u0621","category_slug":"","get_date":"2015-04-11"},"translations":[],"fatawa_books":[],"fatawa_articles":[],"fatawa_videos":[],"fatawa_audios":[],"url":"http:\/\/www.islamland.com\/eng\/api\/fatawas\/10843"}
