What’s in a name? - The Problem with the “Nation of Islam”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Fundamentals of Islamic Belief<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

One could be forgiven for assuming that any group with the word Islam in its title would be Muslim.  But when it comes to the group calling itself the “Nation of Islam”, one must be very wary indeed.  To be Muslim means to hold certain fundamental theological beliefs.  The Muslim profession of faith is:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Mohammed is a prophet of God.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

To elaborate on these statements, to be a Muslim means to believe that God is One, unique.  He has no partners, no associates, no Son, nor did He ever become incarnate.  As chapter 112 of the Quran makes clear:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“He is God, the only One,<\/span><\/p>\r\n

God the Everlasting.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

He did not beget and is not begotten,<\/span><\/p>\r\n

And none is His equal.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

In Islam the ascribing of partners to God, referred to as shirk, is the greatest of all sins.  The Quran states explicitly in chapter 4, verse 36:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Serve God, and join not any partners with Him.”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Secondly, Muslims believe Mohammed to have been the “Seal” or last of the prophets.  To recognize anyone after Mohammed claiming to be a prophet, negates one’s Islam.  As is stated in the Quran:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“O people!  Mohammed has no sons among ye men, but verily, he is the Messenger of God and the last in the line of Prophets. And God is aware of everything.” (Quran 33:40)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

This is reinforced by various sayings of Prophet Mohammed, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“The tribe of Israel was guided by prophets. When a prophet passed away, another succeeded him. But no prophet will come after me; only caliphs will succeed me.” (Saheeh Al-Bukhari<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

“In My Ummah, there shall be born Thirty Grand Liars (Dajjals), each of whom will claim to be a prophet, But I am the Last Prophet; there is No Prophet after Me.” (Abu Dawood, At-Tirmidhi<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

The Errant Theology of the “Nation of Islam”<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

The “Nation of Islam” does not adhere to these core tenets of Islamic theology.  They believe that God appeared on earth in the person of their founder, a “great man from the East”, Master W. Fard Muhammad, a preacher who first came to public attention in the USA on July 4, 1930 then mysteriously “departed the scene” on February 26, 1934.  As the NOI website unambiguously declares:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“WE BELIEVE that Allah (God) appeared in the Person of Master W. Fard Muhammad, July, 1930; the long-awaited “Messiah” of the Christians and the “Mahdi” of the Muslims.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

In 1934 following the unexplained departure of the “Master”, the organization he founded came to be headed by one Elijah Poole, who became known as the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.  Until very recently, the “Nation of Islam” accorded the status of prophet to Elijah Muhammad.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Therefore it is clear that despite their name and calling themselves Muslims, “Nation of Islam” beliefs about God and prophethood are glaringly incompatible with Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Louis Farrakhan, current leader of the Nation of Islam, finally allowed to enter the UK after a court orders the lifting of a 15-year government ban.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Honorable” Elijah Muhammad, the “prophet” of the Nation of Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Master” W. Fard Muhammad in whose person God appeared in early 1930’s America, according to Nation of Islam beliefs.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Racist ideology also at odds with universal Islam<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

A third area of non-compliance with Islam, and the one which receives by far the greatest attention in the secular media, is the issue of race.  The present “Nation of Islam” leader, Louis Farrakhan, is on record as having made objectionable anti-Jewish (as distinct from anti-Zionist) remarks.  Among other unfortunate utterances, he is alleged to have referred to Judaism as a “gutter religion”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Moreover, the NOI is a segregationalist organization exclusively for black people descended from slaves.  Proper Islam is a universal religion open to people of every race.  Muslims are supposed to differentiate between people on the basis, not of ethnic origin, but of piety and upright behavior.  As the Quran makes clear:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“And mankind is naught but a single nation.” (Quran 2:213)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

“O Mankind!  Most certainly, it is We (God almighty) who have Created you all from a single (pair) of a male and a female, And it is We who have made you into nations and tribes, that ye may recognize each other.  Verily, the noblest of you in the sight of God is (he who is) the most righteous of you.” (Quran 49:13)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

And in his final sermon, Prophet Mohammed made clear that racism has no place in Islam:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“O people!  Verily your Lord is one and your father is one. All of you belong to one ancestry of Adam and Adam was created out of clay. There is no superiority for an Arab over a non-Arab and for a non-Arab over an Arab; nor for white over the black nor for the black over the white except in piety. Verily the noblest among you is he who is the most pious.”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

In contrast, the NOI has a pronounced anti-white bias.  They refer to blacks as God’s chosen people and Caucasians as white devils.  They call for a separate homeland for American blacks, for racially segregated education and for a ban on interracial marriage.  To quote again from their website:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

We believe we are the people of God’s choice.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

WE BELIEVE this is the time in history for the separation of the so-called Negroes and the so-called white Americans.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

We want our people in America whose parents or grandparents were descendants from slaves, to be allowed to establish a separate state or territory of their own--either on this continent or elsewhere.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

We want all black children educated, taught and trained by their own teachers.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

We believe that intermarriage or race mixing should be prohibited.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Fellow Muslims with eyes the bluest of blue and skin the whitest of white...<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Former NOI members who recognized anti-white racism as folly and converted to proper Islam include Malcolm X and the world champion heavyweight boxer, Muhammad Ali.  Both spoke out on the subject:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“[The Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca] was an exhilarating experience to see people belonging to different colors, races and nationalities, kings, heads of states and ordinary men from very poor countries all clad in two simple white sheets praying to God without any sense of either pride or inferiority. It was a practical manifestation of the concept of equality in Islam.” (Muhammed Ali)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“During the past eleven days here in the Muslim world, I have eaten from the same plate, drunk from the same glass, and slept in the same bed (or on the same rug) -- while praying to the same God -- with fellow Muslims, whose eyes were the bluest of blue, whose hair was the blondest of blond, and whose skin was the whitest of white. And in the words and in the actions and in the deeds of the ‘white’ Muslims, I felt the same sincerity that I felt among the black African Muslims of Nigeria, Sudan and Ghana.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“We were truly all the same -- because their belief in the one God had removed the ‘white’ from their minds, the ‘white’ from their behavior, and the ‘white’ from their attitude.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“This religion recognizes all men as brothers. It accepts all human beings as equals before God, and as equal members in the Human Family of Mankind. I totally reject Elijah Muhammad’s racist philosophy, which he has labeled ‘Islam’ only to fool and misuse gullible people as he fooled and misused me. But I blame only myself, and no one else for the fool that I was, and the harm that my evangelical foolishness on his behalf has done to others.”  (Malcolm X)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Whither the “Nation of Islam”?<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Laudable as the lifestyle espoused by the NOI may be, one cannot escape the fact that despite some of the trappings of Islam, the theology and ideology they currently espouse are not only non-Islamic but actually anathema to Islam.  There are, however, some signs that things may be changing for the better. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

On the death of Elijah Mohammed in 1976 his son Wallace D. Muhammad (now known as Imam Warrithuddin Mohammed) assumed NOI leadership, renamed the organization the Muslim American Society and tried to steer it toward Islamic orthodoxy.  After three years a disgruntled Louis Farrakhan broke away and re-founded the NOI in line with the teachings of Elijah Mohammed.  But in February this year, Farrakhan, recovering from a serious battle with prostate cancer which may have given him cause to reflect, shared a platform with Wallace and made an important move toward mainstream Islam by declaring:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Allah sent Mohammed with the final revelation to the world. ... There is no prophet after the Prophet Mohammed, and no book after the Koran.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Let us hope that similarly orthodox statements on the nature of God and on race will also soon be forthcoming.  Let us look forward to the day when Louis Farrakhan and his NOI follow the example of their former colleague, Malcolm X, who eventually found his way from the so-called “Nation of Islam” to genuine Islam and stated:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“I declare emphatically that I am no longer in Elijah Muhammad’s ‘strait jacket’, and I don’t intend to replace his with one woven by someone else. I am a Muslim in the most orthodox sense; my religion is Islam as it is believed in and practiced by the Muslims in the Holy City of Mecca.”  Alhamdulillah.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Los fundamentos de la fe islámica<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Uno podría ser perdonado por suponer que cualquier grupo que se autodefina con la palabra “Islam” ha de ser musulmán. Pero cuando proviene de un grupo que se llama “La Nación del Islam”, uno ciertamente debe ser cauteloso. Ser musulmán significa sostener ciertas creencias fundamentales acerca de Dios. La profesión de fe del musulmán dice:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Atestiguo que no hay más divinidad que Dios, y que Muhammad es el Profeta de Dios”.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Para detallar un poco más estas afirmaciones, ser musulmán significa creer en la unidad absoluta de Dios, que no tiene compañeros, asociados, hijos, y que jamás llegó a encarnarse. Como el capítulo 112 del Corán lo aclara:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Di [¡oh, Muhammad!]: Él es Dios, la única divinidad. Dios es el Absoluto [de Quien todos necesitan, y Él no necesita de nadie]. No engendró ni fue engendrado. No hay nada ni nadie que se asemeje a Él”.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

En el Islam, atribuirle a Dios socios o copartícipes de Su divinidad es uno de los más grandes pecados. El Corán afirma esto explícitamente, como en el verso 36 del capítulo 4:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Adorad a Dios y no Le asociéis nada”.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

En segundo lugar, los musulmanes creen que Muhammad es el sello de la Profecía, o el último de los Profetas. Reconocer a cualquier ser humano como profeta luego de la venida de Muhammad es negar el Islam, como lo afirma el Sagrado Corán:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Muhammad no es el padre de ninguno de vuestros hombres, sino el Mensajero de Dios y el sello de los Profetas; y Dios es Omnisciente”. (Corán 33:40)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Esto está reforzado por varios reportes provenientes del Profeta Muhammad (que la paz y las bendiciones de Dios sean con él), quien dijo:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“El Pueblo de Israel fue guiado por Profetas. Cuando un Profeta se iba, otro lo sucedía. Pero ningún Profeta vendrá después de mí; sólo habrá Califas que vendrán después de mí”. (Compilación de Sahih Al Bujari)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

“En mi comunidad nacerán treinta grandes mentirosos, cada uno de los cuales declarará ser un Profeta, pero yo soy el último de los Profetas; no habrá otro Profeta después de mí”. (Compilación de Abu Dawud y At-Tirmidhi)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

La teología errante de la “Nación del Islam”<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

La “Nación del Islam” no se adhiere a estos pilares fundamentales de la teología islámica. Ellos creen que Dios apareció sobre la Tierra en la persona de su fundador, un “gran hombre del Este”, Maestro W. Fard Muhammad, un predicador que llamó la atención pública en los Estados Unidos el 4 de julio de 1930, y luego misteriosamente “desapareció de la escena” el 26 de febrero de 1934. Como el sitio web de “Nación del Islam” dice sin ambigüedades:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Creemos que Allah (Dios) se apareció en la persona del Maestro W. Fard Muhammad, en julio de 1930; el tan esperado Mesías de los cristianos y el Mahdi de los musulmanes”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

En 1934, luego de la inexplicada desaparición del “Maestro”, la organización que él fundó fue encabezada por Elijah Poole, quien se hizo conocido como el Honorable Elijah Muhammad. Hasta hace muy poco, la “Nación del Islam” le otorgó el estatus de “profeta” de Elijah Muhammad.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Por lo tanto, se hace evidente que a pesar de su nombre y de que se llaman a sí mismos “Nación del Islam”, sus creencias acerca de Dios y de la profecía son claramente incompatibles con el Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Louis Farrakhan, actual líder de la “Nación del Islam”, finalmente fue autorizado para ingresar a Inglaterra después de que una corte ordenara levantar la expulsión dictada por el gobierno hace 15 años.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

El “Honorable” Elijah Muhammad, el profeta de “Nación del Islam”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

El “Maestro” W. Fard Muhammad, en cuya persona Dios habría aparecido cerca de los años 1930 en Estados Unidos, según las creencias del grupo “Nación del Islam”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

La ideología racista es incompatible con la universalidad del Islam<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Una tercer área de incompatibilidad con el Islam auténtico, y la que más atrae la atención de los medios de comunicación, es el tema de la raza. El actual líder de “Nación del Islam”, Louis Farrakhan, ha sido registrado haciendo objetables declaraciones antijudías (sin distinguir sionismo de judaísmo). Entre esas declaraciones inoportunas, están las que se refieren al judaísmo como “una religión de baja calaña”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Más aún, la “Nación del Islam” es una organización segregacionista exclusivamente para personas negras descendientes de esclavos. Pero el verdadero Islam es una religión universal, abierta a todos los pueblos y razas de la humanidad. En todo caso, se supone que los musulmanes se diferencian de los otros pueblos a través de la piedad y la rectitud, no por sus orígenes étnicos. El Corán deja esto bien claro:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“La humanidad era una sola nación”. (Corán 2: 213)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

“¡Oh, humanos! Os hemos creado a partir de un hombre [Adán] y una mujer [Eva], y [de su descendencia] os congregamos en pueblos y tribus para que os conozcáis unos a otros. En verdad, el más honrado de vosotros ante Allah es el más piadoso”. (Corán 49:13)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Y en el sermón de despedida, el Profeta Muhammad (que la paz y las bendiciones de Allah sean con él) dejó en claro que el racismo no tiene lugar alguno en la religión del Islam:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“¡Oh, gente! Verdaderamente, vuestro Señor es uno, y vuestro padre (Adán) es uno. Todos ustedes provienen de un solo ancestro, Adán, y Adán fue creado de arcilla. No hay superioridad del árabe sobre el no árabe, ni del blanco sobre el negro, excepto en la piedad. Verdaderamente, los más nobles entre ustedes son los más piadosos”.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

En contraste, el grupo “Nación del Islam” sostiene prejuicios sobre el hombre blanco. Se refieren a los negros como el pueblo elegido de Dios, y a los caucásicos como “los demonios blancos”. Ellos proponen la creación de una tierra natal separada para los negros estadounidenses, educación racialmente separada y se oponen a los matrimonios interraciales. Para citarlos nuevamente desde su sitio web:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Creemos que somos el pueblo elegido por Dios, y que este es el momento en la historia para la separación de los negros y los blancos. Queremos que nuestra gente en Estados Unidos, cuyos padres y abuelos son descendientes de esclavos, se les permita establecer un Estado separado o territorio propio, ya sea en este continente o fuera de él.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Queremos que todos los niños negros sean educados, enseñados y entrenados por profesores propios. El matrimonio interracial y la mezcla de razas debería ser prohibida”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“…hermanos musulmanes, cuyos ojos eran del más profundo de los azules, cuyo pelo era el más rubio, y cuya piel era la más blanca…”<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Entre los miembros anteriores de la “Nación del Islam” que reconocieron el racismo en contra de los blancos como una tontería y se convirtieron verdaderamente al Islam tenemos a Malcolm X y al campeón mundial de pesos pesados, Muhammad ‘Ali. Ambos se expresaron acerca del asunto:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“[La peregrinación a La Meca] es una experiencia inspiradora. Ver a la gente de diferentes colores, razas y nacionalidades; reyes, líderes de Estado, gente común, proveniente de los países más pobres, todos vestidos de la misma forma, con dos simples piezas de tela blanca, rezando a Dios sin ningún sentido de orgullo ni inferioridad. Fue una manifestación viva del concepto de igualdad en el Islam”. (Cassius Clay, más conocido como Muhammad ‘Alí).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Durante los últimos once años en el mundo islámico, he comido del mismo plato, bebido del mismo vaso, dormido en la misma cama, mientras rezábamos al mismo Dios con nuestros hermanos musulmanes, cuyos ojos eran del más profundo de los azules, cuyo pelo era el más rubio, y cuya piel era la más blanca. Y en las palabras y acciones de los musulmanes “blancos”, sentí la misma sinceridad que siento entre los negros africanos de Nigeria, Sudán o Ghana”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Verdaderamente somos todos iguales, porque su creencia en un solo Dios ha removido lo ‘blanco’ de sus mentes, de su comportamiento y actitud”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Esta religión reconoce a todos los hombres como hermanos. Acepta a todos los seres humanos como iguales ante Dios, y como miembros en la gran familia de la humanidad. Yo rechazo totalmente la filosofía racista de Elijah Muhammad, que él ha etiquetado como ‘Islam’ sólo para engañar y extraviar a la gente desprevenida, como él solía engañarme y extraviarme. Pero yo me culpo sólo a mí mismo y a nadie más por lo tonto que fui, y por el daño que mi estupidez evangelizadora le ha hecho a otros en nombre de él”. (Malcolm X).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

¿Hacia dónde va la “Nación del Islam”?<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

La filosofía de vida adoptada por la Nación del Islam puede ser muy loable, sin embargo, no podemos negar el hecho de que, a pesar de poseer algunos elementos del Islam, la teología e ideología de la organización no son para nada islámicas, sino su antítesis. Pero existen algunas señales de que eso puede cambiar para mejor.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A la muerte de Elijah Muhammad en 1976, su hijo Wallace D. Muhammad (conocido como el Imam Warrit Ud-Dín Mohammad) asumió el liderazgo de la Nación del Islam, rebautizada como Muslim American Society<\/em> (Sociedad Musulmana Americana) e intentó conducirla hacia la ortodoxia islámica. Después de tres años un enfadado Louis Farrakhan rompió con ellos y refundó la “Nación del Islam” en línea con las enseñanzas de Elijah Muhammad. Pero en Febrero de este año, Farrakhan, recobrado de una seria batalla contra el cáncer que puede haberle dado una causa para reflexionar, compartió una plataforma con Wallace y dio un paso importante hacia el verdadero Islam al declarar:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Dios envió al Profeta Muhammad con la revelación final para este mundo… no hay ningún profeta después de él, y ningún libro revelado después del Corán”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Tengamos entonces la esperanza de que otras afirmaciones de una sensatez similar acerca de Dios y las razas humanas estén por llegar. Miremos hacia el futuro y esperemos el día en que Louis Farrakhan y su “Nación del Islam” sigan el ejemplo de su predecesor, Malcolm X, quien eventualmente transitó desde la “Nación del Islam” hasta que encontró el verdadero Islam, y afirmó:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Yo declaro enfáticamente que no estoy más en el bolsillo de Elijah Muhammad, y no tengo intención de remplazarlo por el bolsillo de otro. Soy un musulmán en el sentido más ortodoxo del término; mi religión es el Islam, como fue creído y practicado por los musulmanes en la Ciudad Santa de La Meca”.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Alabado sea Dios.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Les fondements de la croyance islamique<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

On ne peut blâmer les gens de présumer que tout groupe dont le nom contient le mot « islam » soit un groupe musulman.  Mais quand on parle de ce groupe qui s’appelle la Nation de l’islam, il faut se montrer très prudent.  Car être musulman signifie nourrir certaines croyances fondamentales.  La profession de foi musulmane va comme suit :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « J’atteste qu’il n’y a pas d’autre Dieu qu’Allah et que Mohammed est Son messager. »<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Être musulman signifie croire que Dieu est unique, qu’Il n’a aucun associé ni fils et qu’Il ne S’est jamais incarné.  Comme l’établit clairement la sourate 112 du Coran :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Dis : « Il est Dieu, l’Unique.  Dieu, le Seul à être imploré pour ce que nous désirons.  Il n’a jamais engendré et n’a pas été engendré.  Et nul ne peut L’égaler. »<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

En islam, le fait d’attribuer des associés à Dieu (en arabe : shirk<\/em>, signifiant polythéisme) est le plus grave de tous les péchés.  Dans le verset 36 de la quatrième sourate, le Coran affirme :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Adorez Dieu et ne Lui attribuez aucun associé. »<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Les musulmans croient que le prophète Mohammed fut le « sceau » des prophètes, le dernier de la lignée des prophètes qui furent envoyés à l’humanité.  Attribuer le titre de prophète à qui que ce soit après Mohammed suffit à faire sortir une personne de l’islam.  Le Coran dit :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Mohammed n’est le père d’aucun de vos hommes; mais il est le messager de Dieu et le Sceau des prophètes.  Et Dieu est Omniscient. » (Coran 33:40)                                                                                             <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Diverses narrations du prophète Mohammed (que la paix et les bénédictions de Dieu soient sur lui) vont dans le même sens :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « La tribu d’Israël fut guidée par des prophètes.  Quand l’un d’eux quittait ce monde, un autre lui succédait.  Mais aucun prophète ne viendra après moi; seuls des califes me succéderont. » (Sahih al-Boukhari<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « De ma oummah [communauté] naîtront trente grands menteurs [dajjals] et chacun prétendra être un prophète.  Mais je suis le dernier de la lignée des prophètes et il n’y aura aucun autre prophète après moi. » (Abou Daoud, at-Tirmidhi<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

La théologie biaisée de la Nation de l’islam <\/span><\/h2>\r\n

La Nation de l’islam n’adhère pas à ces principes fondamentaux de l’islam.  Ils croient que Dieu s’est incarné en la personne de leur fondateur, un « grand homme venu de l’Est », W.Fard Muhammad, un prêcheur qui s’est fait connaître du public, aux États-Unis, le 4 juillet 1930 et qui est mystérieusement disparu le 26 février 1934.  Comme l’affirme leur site web :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Nous croyons qu’Allah (Dieu) est apparu en juillet de l’année 1930 sous les traits de Maître W.Fard Muhammad, le Messie tant attendu des chrétiens et le Mahdi des musulmans. »<\/span><\/p>\r\n

En 1934, suite à la disparition inexpliquée du « Maître », Elijah Poole, qui allait être connu sous le nom d’Honorable Elijah Muhammad, prit la tête du groupe.  Jusqu’à tout récemment, la « Nation de l’islam » accordait encore le statut de prophète à Elijah Muhammad.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Par conséquent, il est clair qu’en dépit de leur nom et que malgré le fait qu’ils se prétendent musulmans, les croyances de la Nation de l’islam sur Dieu et sur la prophétie sont totalement incompatibles avec l’islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Une idéologie raciste en conflit avec l’islam universel<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Une autre sphère où cette secte n’est pas conforme à l’islam, et qui attire le plus l’attention des médias, est la question raciale.  Le leader actuel de la Nation de l’islam, Louis Farrakhan, aurait tenu des propos désobligeants à l’encontre des juifs.  Parmi ces déclarations, il aurait parlé du judaïsme comme d’une religion « de gouttière ».<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Par ailleurs, la Nation de l’islam est une secte ségrégationniste qui n’accepte, en son sein, que des membres de race noire et descendants d’esclaves.  Le véritable islam, quant à lui, est une religion universelle, ouverte aux gens de toutes les races.  Les musulmans ne sont censés faire de distinction, entre les gens, que sur la base de leur piété et de leur vertu et non sur la base de leur race ou de leur statut social.  Dieu dit, dans le Coran :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « (Tous) les gens formaient (à l’origine) une seule communauté. » (Coran 2:213)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

« Ô hommes!  Nous vous avons créés d’un mâle et d’une femelle, et Nous avons fait de vous des nations et des tribus, afin que vous fassiez connaissance entre vous.  Certes, le plus noble d’entre vous, auprès de Dieu, est celui qui a la meilleure conduite. » (Coran 49:13)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Dans son dernier sermon, le prophète Mohammed a clairement laissé entendre que le racisme n’avait pas sa place, en islam :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Toute l’humanité descend d’Adam et Ève. Un Arabe n’est point supérieur à un non-Arabe, et un non-Arabe n’est point supérieur à un Arabe; et les Blancs ne sont point supérieurs aux Noirs, de même que les Noirs ne sont point supérieurs aux Blancs. Aucune personne n’est supérieure à une autre, si ce n’est en piété et en bonnes actions. Vous savez que chaque musulman est le frère de tous les autres musulmans. Vous êtes tous égaux. »<\/strong><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

De son côté, la Nation de l’islam a souvent fait des déclarations pleines de préjugés contre les Blancs.  Selon eux, les Noirs seraient les élus de Dieu, tandis que les Blancs seraient des diables.  Ils demandent des terres séparées pour les Noirs américains, un système d’éducation séparant les Noirs des Blancs et une loi contre les mariages interraciaux.  Sur leur site web, on peut lire :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous croyons que nous sommes les élus de Dieu.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous croyons qu’est venu le moment, dans l’histoire, de séparer les soi-disant Nègres des soi-disant Blancs américains.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous voulons que nos membres, en Amérique, dont les parents ou les grands-parents sont descendants d’esclaves, aient la permission d’établir un État ou un territoire séparé et bien à eux, que ce soit sur ce continent ou ailleurs.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous voulons que tous les enfants noirs soient éduqués par leurs propres enseignants.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous croyons que les mariages interraciaux doivent être interdits.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Des coreligionnaires aux yeux les plus bleus, aux cheveux les plus blonds, à la peau la plus blanche<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Parmi les anciens membres de la Nation de l’islam qui ont reconnu le caractère inacceptable du racisme de cette secte et qui se sont par la suite convertis au véritable islam, on retrouve Malcolm X et le boxeur Muhammad Ali.  Voici leurs déclarations à ce sujet :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Le Hajj [pèlerinage à la Mecque] fut une expérience exaltante.  Ce fut un plaisir de voir tous ces gens de diverses couleurs, appartenant à toutes les races et nationalités, des rois, des chefs d’État et des gens ordinaires, pauvres ou riches, tous vêtus de la même manière avec deux pièces de tissu de couleur blanche, priant Dieu sans aucun sentiment ni d’arrogance ni d’infériorité.  J’y vis une manifestation du concept d’égalité en islam. » (Muhammad Ali)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Au cours des onze journées que j'ai passé ici, dans le monde musulman, j'ai mangé dans le même plat, bu dans le même verre, dormi dans le même lit (ou sur le même tapis) j'ai prié le même Dieu que mes coreligionnaires aux yeux les plus bleus, aux cheveux les plus blonds, à la peau la plus blanche. Dans leurs paroles comme dans leurs actes, les musulmans \"blancs\" sont aussi sincères que les musulmans \"noirs\" d'Afrique nigériens, soudanais, ghanéens. »<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Nous sommes véritablement frères.  Parce qu'ils croient en un seul Dieu, ils excluent toutes considérations de race de leur esprit, de leurs actes, de leurs comportements. »<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Cette religion [l’islam] fait de tous les hommes des frères.  Elle accepte tous les êtres humains comme égaux devant Dieu et comme membres égaux et à part entière de la grande famille appelée Humanité.  Je rejette totalement la philosophie raciste d’Elijah Muhammad, qu’il appelle « islam » que pour mieux tromper et abuser des gens naïfs, comme il m’a trompé et abusé de moi.  Mais je n’ai que moi-même à blâmer pour avoir été aussi crédule et pour avoir causé autant de tort, aux autres, en prêchant son message. » (Malcolm X)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Une Nation de l’islam plus « blanche »?<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

À la mort d’Elijah Mohammed, en 1976, son fils, Wallace D.Muhammad (maintenant connu sous le nom d’Imam Warrithuddin Mohammed) prit la tête de la Nation de l’islam, renomma le groupe qui devint la Muslim American Society et tenta de lui faire prendre un virage vers l’islam orthodoxe.  Mais trois ans plus tard, un Louis Farrakhan mécontent se sépara du groupe pour refonder la Nation de l’islam telle qu’elle était, selon les enseignements d’Elijah Mohammed.  Cependant, en février de cette année, Farrakhan, se remettant d’un dur combat contre un cancer de la prostate qui l’a probablement amené à réfléchir, partagea une tribune avec Wallace et fit un pas important vers l’islam orthodoxe en déclarant :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Allah a envoyé Mohammed à l’humanité avec la révélation finale…  Il n’y aucun autre prophète après Mohammed et aucun autre livre [révélé] après le Coran. »<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous espérons entendre bientôt, de sa part, d’autres déclarations orthodoxes du même genre sur la nature de Dieu et sur la diversité des races qu’Il a créées.  Souhaitons voir le jour où Louis Farrakhan et la Nation de l’islam suivront l’exemple de leur ancien confrère, Malcolm X, qui finit par trouver le véritable islam et qui affirma :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

 « Je déclare catégoriquement que je ne suis plus tenu en « camisole de force » par Elijah Muhammad et que je n’ai pas l’intention de remplacer la sienne par une autre, tissée par quelqu’un d’autre.  Je suis musulman au sens orthodoxe du terme.  Ma religion est l’islam tel qu’il est connu et pratiqué par les musulmans de la ville sainte de la Mecque. »<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Alhamdoulillah.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Die Grundlagen des islamischen Glaubens <\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Es ist zu verzeihen, wenn jemand annimmt, dass jede Gruppe mit dem Wort Islam in ihrem Titel muslimisch sei.  Wenn aber eine Gruppe sich selbst \"Nation des Islam\" nennt, dann muss man wirklich vorsichtig sein.  Ein Muslim zu sein bedeutet, an bestimmte theologischen Glaubensgrundlagen festzuhalten.  Das muslimische Glaubensbekenntnis lautet:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Ich bezeuge, dass es keinen Gott gibt außer Gott und ich bezeuge, dass Muhammad ein Prophet Gottes ist.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Um diese Aussagen zu erarbeiten, ein Muslim zu sein, bedeutet zu glauben, dass Gott ein Einziger ist.  Er hat keinen Teilhaber, keinen Partner, keinen Sohn, er wird niemals wiedergeboren.  Wie Kapitel 112 des Quran verdeutlicht.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Sprich: \"Er ist Gott, ein Einziger<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Gott, der Absolute (ewig Unabhängige, von Dem alles abhängt).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Er zeugt nicht und ist nicht gezeugt worden<\/span><\/p>\r\n

und Ihm ebenbürtig ist keiner.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Im Islam wird das beigesellen von Partnern zu Gott als Schirk bezeichnet, es ist die größte aller Sünden.  Der Qur'an fordert in Kapitel 4 Vers 36:. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Und dient Gott und setzt Ihm nichts zur Seite.”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Zweitens glauben Muslime, dass Muhammad das \"Siegel\" oder der letzte der Propheten ist.  Irgendjemand anderen, der behauptet ein Prophet nach Muhammad zu sein, anzuerkennen, bedeutet, den Islam zu verlassen.  Wie der Qur' an sagt:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Muhammad ist nicht der Vater eines eurer Männer, sondern der Gesandte Allahs und der letzte aller Propheten, und Allah besitzt die volle Kenntnis aller Dinge.” (Quran 33:40)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Dies wird durch zahlreiche Aussagen des Propheten Muhammad, Gottes Segen und Frieden seien mit ihm, bekräftigt. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Die Stämme Israels wurden von Propheten geleitet.  Wenn ein Prophet verstarb, folgte ihm ein anderer.  Aber nach mir wird kein Prophet mehr kommen; nur Khalifen werden mir folgen.” (Sahieh Al-Bukhari<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

“In meiner Ummah warden dreißig große Lügner (Dajjal) geboren, von denen jeder behaupten wird, ein Prophet zu sein.  Aber ich bin der letzte Prophet, es gibt keinen Propheten nach mir.” (Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Die abgedriftete Theologie der \"Nation des Islam\"<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Die “Nation des Islam” hält nicht an diesen Kernsätzen der islamischen Theologie fest.  Sie glauben, Gott sei auf der Erde erschienen in der Person ihres Gründers, eines \"Großen Mannes vom Osten\", Meister W. Fard Muhammad, einem Prediger, der in den USA am 4.Juli 1930 öffentich Aufmerksamkeit auf sich gezogen hat und dann am 26.Februar 1934 geheimnisvoll \"die Szene verließ\".  Wie die NOI Webseite unmissverständlich erklärt:.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“WIR GLAUBEN, dass Allah (Gott) in der Person des Master W. Fard Muhammad, im Juli 1930, dem lang ersehnten \"Messias\" der Christen und dem \"Mahdi\" der Muslime erschienen ist.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

1934 nach dem unerklärten Verschwinden des \"Masters\" wurde die Organisation, die er gegründet hatte, von einem Elijah Poole geführt, der als der ehrenwerte Elijah Muhammad bekannt ist.  Bis vor kurzem maß die \"Nation des Islam\" Elijah Muhammad den Status des Propheten bei. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Daher ist es deutlich, dass trotz ihres Namens und obwohl sie sich Muslime nennen, die \"Nation des Islam\" Ansichten von Gott haben, die mit dem Islam nicht vereinbar sind.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Louis Farrakhan, dem gegenwärtigen Führer der Nation des Islam, ist es jetzt gestattet, UK zu betreten, nachdem ein Gericht die Aufhebung eines 15 jährigen Bannes angeordnet hat. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Der “ehrenwerte” Elijah Muhammad ist der “Prophet” der Nation des Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Master” W. Fard Muhammad ist der Mann, in dessen Person Gott nach Ansicht der Nation des Islam in den frühen 30er Jahren in Amerika erschienen ist.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Rassistische Ideologie passt ebenfalls nicht zum Islam<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Eine dritte Sache, die nicht zum Islam passt, und die eigentlich weit mehr Aufmerksamkeit in den sekulären Medien erregt, ist das Thema der Rasse.  Vom Führer der gegenwärtigen “Nation des Islam”, Louis Farrakhan, wird berichtet, er habe einige anstößige antijüdische (im Unterschied zu antizionistischen) Bemerkungen gemacht.  Unter anderen unglücklichen Äußerungen soll er das Judentum als \"Gossenreligion\" bezeichnet haben. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Desweiteren ist die NOI rassentrennende Organisation, die ausschließlich für schwarze Menschen ist, die von Sklaven stammen.  Der wirkliche Islam ist eine universale Religion, die für Menschen jeder Rasse offen ist.  Von Muslimen wird erwartet, keine Unterschiede zwischen den Menschen zu machen aufgrund deren ethnischen Ursprungs sondern aufgrund von Frömmigkeit und aufrechten Verhaltens.  Wie der Qur´an deutlich sagt:. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Die Menschen waren eine einzige Gemeinschaft.” (Quran 2:213)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

“O ihr Menschen, Wir haben euch aus Mann und Frau erschaffen und euch zu Völkern und Stämmen gemacht, auf daß ihr einander erkennen möget. Wahrlich, vor Gott ist von euch der Angesehenste, welcher der Gottesfürchtigste ist.”(Quran 49:13)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Und in seiner letzten Predigt machte der Prophet Muhammad deutlich, dass Rassismus im Islam keinen Platz hat:.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Oh, ihr Menschen!  Fürwahr, euer Herr ist Einer und euer Vater ist einer.  Alle von euch gehören zu den Nachkommen Adams und Adam wurde aus Ton geschaffen.  Es gibt keine Überlegenheit eines Arabers über einen Nicht-Araber und eines Nicht-Arabers über einen Araber; und keines Weißen über einen Schwarzen und keines Schwarzen über einen Weißen außer in Frömmigkeit.  Fürwahr, der edelste von euch ist der Frömmste.”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Im Gegensatz dazu hat NOI eine antiweiße Voreingenommenheit ausgesprochen.  Sie bezeichnen Schwarze als das auserwählte Volk Gottes und die Kaukasier als weiße Teufel.  Sie fordern ein separates Heimatland für amerikanische Schwarze, rassisch getrennten Unterricht und ein Verbot für Ehen unterschiedlicher Rassenzugehörigkeit.  Noch ein Zitat von ihrer Webseite:. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Wir glauben, wir sind das Volk, das Gott gewählt hat.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

WIR GLAUBEN dies ist die Zeit in der Geschichte, für eine Trennung der sogenannten Negros und den sogenannten weißen Amerikanern. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Wir möchten, dass unserem Volk in Amerika, deren Eltern oder Großeltern von Sklaven abstammten, gestattet wird, einen separaten Staat oder eigenes Territorium zu errichten – entweder auf diesem Kontinent oder anderswo.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Wir möchten, dass alle schwarzen Kinder von ihren eigenen Lehrern erzogen, gelehrt und trainiert warden. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Wir glauben, dass Mischehe oder das Vermischen von Rassen verboten warden sollte. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mitmuslime mit den blauesten Augen und der weißesten Haut...<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

Frühere NOI Mitglieder, die den anti-weißen Rassismus als Torheit erkannt haben und zum richtigen Islam konvertiert haben, schließen Malcolm X und den Weltmeister im Schwergewicht, Muhammad Ali mit ein.  Beide äußerten sich zu diesem Thema:.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“[Die Hajj Pilgerreise nach Mekka] war eine berauschende Erfahrung, Menschen zu sehen, die verschiedenen Farben, Rassen und Nationalitäten angehören, Könige Staatsoberhäupter und einfache  Männer aus sehr armen Ländern mit zwei einfachen Tüchern bekleidet, beten ohne irgendeine Spur von Stolz oder Unterlegenheit Gott an.  Es war eine praktische Manifestation der Gleichheit im Islam.” (Muhammed Ali)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Während der letzten elf Tage hier in der muslimischen Welt, habe ich mit Mitmuslimen von demselben Teller gegessen, vom selben Glas getrunken und im selben Bett geschlafen (oder auf derselben Matte) – während wir denselben Gott anbeteten – deren Augen die blauesten von den blauen, deren Haare die blondesten von den blonden, und deren Haut die weißeste von den weißen war.   Und in den Worten und in den Taten der ´weißen´ Muslime fühlte ich dieselbe Aufrichtigkeit, die ich unter schwarzen afrikanischen Muslimen aus Nigeria, Sudan und Ghana gefühlt habe.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Wir waren wirklich alle gleich – weil ihr Glaube an den einen Gott das ´weiße´ aus ihren Köpfen entfernt hat, das ´Weiße´aus ihrem Verhalten und das ´Weiße´ aus ihrer Gesinnung.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Diese Religion erkennt alle Männer als Brüder an.  Sie akzeptiert alle menschlichen Wesen als vor Gott gleich und als gleichrangige Mitglieder der menschlichen Familie der Menschheit.  Ich lehne Elijah Muhammads rassistische Philosophie völlig ab, mit der er den Islam gekennzeichnet hat, um leichtgläubige Menschen zu täuschen und zu missbrauchen, wie er mich zum Narren gehalten und missbraucht hat.  Aber ich beschuldige nur mich selbst und keinen sonst, dafür, dass ich mich habe zum Narren halten lassen, für den Schaden, den ich in meiner evangelischen Dummheit in seinem Namen anderen angetan habe.”  (Malcolm X)<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Wohin mir der “Nation des Islam”?<\/span><\/h2>\r\n

So lobenswert der Lebensstil auch sein mag, der von der NOI vertreten wird, keiner kann der Tatsache entfliehen, dass sie trotz einiger der Insignien des Islam, der Theologie und der Ideologie, die sie gerade vertreten, nicht islamisch sind, sondern in Wirklichkeit ein Dorn im Auge des Islam.  Es gibt allerdings einige Zeichen dafür, dass sie sich möglicherweise zum Besseren entwickeln.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nach dem Tod von Elijah Mohammed 1976 übernahm sein Sohn Wallace D. Muhammad (jetzt bekannt als Imam Warrithuddin Mohammed) die Führung der NOI, nannte die Organisation um in Muslim American Society und versuchte, sie in Richtung orthodoxen Islam zu steuern.  Nach drei Jahren hat sich ein missmutiger Louis Farrakhan abgespalten und die NOI wieder gegründet, die sich wieder an den Lehren von Elijah Mohammed orientierte.  Aber im Februar dieses Jahres, als Farrakhan sich von einem Kampf gegen Prostatakrebs erholt hatte, der ihn vermutlich Anlass zum Nachdenken gegeben hatte, traf er sich mit Wallace und machte eine wichtige Bewegung in die Hauptrichtung des Islam, indem er erklärte:.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Allah hat Mohammed mit der letzten Offenbarung für die Welt gesandt... Es gibt keinen Propheten nach Muhammad und kein Buch nach dem Quran.”<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Lasst uns hoffen, dass verglichbare orthodoxe Aussagen über Gott und über die Rasse recht bald folgen mögen.  Lasst uns auf einen Tag hoffen, an dem Louis Farrakhan und seine NOI dem Beispiel ihres früheren Kollegen, Malcolm X, folgen werden, der seinen Weg aus der sogenannten \"Nation des Islam\" zum richtigen Islam gefunden hat und der sagte:.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Ich erkläre, dass ich nicht länger in Elijah Muhammads ' Zwangsjacke' stecke, und ich beabsichtige nicht, sie durch eine zu ersetzen, die ein irgendein anderer gewebt hat.  Ich bin ein Muslim im höchst orthodoxen Sinn; meine Religion ist der Islam, wie er in der heiligen Stadt Mekka von den Muslimen geglaubt und praktiziert wird.”  Alhamdulillah.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
