My name is Ali.  I’m a 31 year old Mexican born in America or as some would say a Chicano.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I thought I would make a webpage to tell my story of how I became a Muslim.  I think it will Insha’Allah (God willing) help people understand Islam and why it attracted me.  People have a wrong perception About Islam and Muslims, what little they know is usually from movies and television which is almost all the time false.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

My life before was bad I had no direction in life.  I was wasting my life away by dropping out of school in the 11th grade.  I would hang out in the streets with my friends “partying” getting high, drinking and selling marijuana, most of my friends were gang members. I myself was never in a gang.  I knew most of them before they turned bad, so it was not a problem.  I slowly began to use harder drugs, I had dreams but they seemed to far away for me to make them reality.  The more I became depressed the more I turned to drugs as a temporary escape.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

One day a friend of mine told me that he knew where to get some good marijuana, I agreed to go check it out.  We arrived and went inside this apartment. There were a couple of people inside; we sat around and talked for a while and sampled the weed.  My friend and I bought some and were getting ready to leave when my friend said one of the guys there invited us to his apartment to give him a book.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

We left for this guy’s apartment when we got there, he gave my friend a book and asked him to read it, and said that it might help him out with his problems in life.  On the way home I asked my friend to show me the book that the guy gave him, it was the Quran (Koran).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I had never in my life heard of The Holy Quran, I began to briefly read some pages, while I was reading I knew that what I was reading was true, it was like a slap in the face, a wake up call.  The Quran is so clear and easy to understand.  I was really impressed and wanted to know more about Islam and Muslims.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

The strangest thing is that I was not looking for a new religion, I used to laugh at people that went to church, and I some times said that there was no God.  Although deep down I knew there was.  I decided to go to the library a couple of days later and check out the Quran.  I began to read it and study it, I learned about Prophet Mohamed and the true story of Jesus son of Mary (Peace be upon him).  The Quran stressed the fact that God was one and had no partners or a son, this was most interesting to me since I never understood the concept of the trinity.  The Quran describes the birth of Prophet Jesus, peace be upon him, and his mission.  There is also a Surah (Chapter) called Maryam (Mary) and tells her story as well.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

As a child I always went to church, my mother was a Seventh Day Adventist and took my sister and me every Saturday.  I never was really religious and stopped going to church when I was about 14 or 15.  The rest of my family is Catholic, I always wondered why we were Seventh Day Adventist and the rest of my family was Catholic.  When we would go visit my family back in Mexico, we went to a Catholic church for weddings and celebrations.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, is the last Messenger of God sent to all mankind.  The Quran tells the story’s of all the Prophets such as Adam, Abraham, Noah, Isaac, David, Moses, Jesus (Peace be upon them all) just to name a few, told in a clear and understandable manner.  I did months of research on Islam I bought a Holy Quran at a bookstore and studied about worldh and Islam’s contributions to medicine and science.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I learned that Spain was a Muslim country for almost a thousand years, and that when the Muslims were expelled from Spain by the Christian king and Queen (Ferdinand and Isabella), the Christian Spaniards came to Mexico and forced the Aztecs and others to become Catholic, history and my Islamic roots was all becoming clear to me.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

After months of study and research I could not deny the truth anymore I had put it off too long, but was still living the life I was before and knew that if I became Muslim I had to give all that up.  One day while reading the Quran, I began to cry and fell to my knees and thanked Allah for guiding me to the truth.  I found out that there was a mosque by my house so I went one Friday to see how Muslims prayed and conducted their service.  I saw that people from all races and colors attended the mosque.  I saw that they took off their shoes when entering and sat on the carpeted floor.  A man got up and began to call the Adthan (call for prayer) when I heard it my eyes filled up with tears it sounded so beautiful, it was all so strange at first but seemed so right at the same time.  Islam is not just a religion but a way of life.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

After going a couple of Fridays I was ready to be a Muslim and say my Shahada (declaration of faith).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I told the Khatib (person giving the lecture) that I wanted to be a Muslim, the following Friday in front of the community I said my Shahada first in Arabic then in English: I bear witness that there is no other God but Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His Messenger.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

When I finished a brother shouted Takbir!  and all the community said “Allah u Akbar (God is great)!” a few times, then all the brothers came and hugged me.  I never received so many hugs in one day, I will never forget that day it was great.  I have been Muslim since 1997, I’m at peace with myself and clear in religion, being Muslim has really changed my life for the better thanks to Almighty God.  I went back to school to get my High School equivalent and computer repair training.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I had the blessing of being able to perform Hajj (Pilgrimage) to the Holy city of Mecca, it was a experience of a lifetime, about 3 million people from every race and color in one place worshiping Almighty God The Creator.  Alhamdulillah (praise be to God) in December of 2002, I got married in Morocco to a very good Muslim woman.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I think that Islam is the answer for the problems of the youth and society in general.  I hope my story Insha’Allah (God willing) will attract more Latinos and people of all races to the light of Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mi nombre es Ali. Soy un mexicano de 31 años de edad nacido en los Estados Unidos, o como dirían algunos, soy un chicano.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Pensé en hacer una página web para contar mi historia sobre cómo me hice musulmán. Creo que in sha Al-lah<\/em> (si Dios quiere) le ayudaría a la gente a entender el Islam y por qué me atrajo. La gente tiene una percepción errada sobre el Islam y los musulmanes, y lo poco que saben por lo general viene de las películas y de la televisión, que casi todo el tiempo es falso.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mi vida antes era mala, yo no tenía dirección. Estaba desperdiciando mi vida al abandonar la escuela en el grado once. Me gustaba pasármela en las calles con mis amigos “festeando”, drogándome, bebiendo alcohol y vendiendo marihuana, pues la mayoría de mis amigos eran miembros de pandillas. Yo nunca estuve en una pandilla. Conocí a la mayoría de sus miembros antes de que se descarriaran, así que no era un problema. Poco a poco comencé a usar drogas más duras, tenía sueños, pero parecían demasiado lejanos como para que yo pudiera hacerlos realidad. Mientras más me deprimía, más drogas consumía como escape temporal.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Un día un amigo mío me dijo que sabía dónde conseguir buena marihuana, y estuve de acuerdo en ir a comprobarlo. Llegamos y entramos a su apartamento. Dentro había un par de personas, nos sentamos alrededor y hablamos un rato mientras probábamos la hierba. Mi amigo y yo compramos un poco y cuando nos disponíamos a salir, mi amigo me dijo que uno de los muchachos nos había invitado a su apartamento para darle un libro.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Salimos hacia el apartamento del chico y cuando llegamos, él le dio a mi amigo un libro y le pidió que lo leyera, diciéndole que le podría ayudar con sus problemas en la vida. De camino a casa le pedí a mi amigo que me mostrara el libro que el chico le había dado, era el Corán.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Jamás en mi vida había escuchado acerca del Sagrado Corán, comencé a leer brevemente algunas páginas, y mientras leía sabía que lo que leía era cierto, fue como una bofetada en la cara, una llamada de atención. El Corán es muy claro y fácil de entender. Yo estaba realmente impresionado y quería saber más sobre el Islam y los musulmanes.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Lo más extraño es que yo no estaba buscando una nueva religión, solía reírme de la gente que iba a la iglesia, y a veces decía que Dios no existía. Aunque en el fondo sabía que sí existía. Decidí ir a la biblioteca un par de días después y ver el Corán. Comencé a leerlo y a estudiarlo, aprendí sobre el Profeta Muhammad y la historia verdadera de Jesús, el hijo de María, la paz sea con él. El Corán subraya el hecho de que Dios es uno solo y que no tiene asociados ni tampoco un hijo, esto era lo más interesante para mí ya que nunca entendí el concepto de la Trinidad.  El Corán describe el nacimiento del Profeta Jesús, la paz sea con él, y su misión. Además hay una Surah<\/em> (capítulo) llamado Mariam (María) y cuenta su historia también.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Cuando niño siempre iba a la iglesia, mi madre era adventista del séptimo día y nos llevaba a mi hermana y a mí todos los domingos. Nunca fui realmente religioso y dejé de ir a la iglesia cuando tenía 14 o 15 años. El resto de mi familia es católica, siempre me pregunté por qué nosotros éramos adventistas del séptimo día y el resto de mi familia era católica. Cuando íbamos a visitar a mi familia en México, íbamos a la iglesia católica para las bodas y las celebraciones.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Muhammad, que la misericordia y las bendiciones de Dios sean con él, es el último Mensajero enviado por Dios para toda la humanidad. El Corán cuenta las historias de todos los Profetas como Adán, Abraham, Noé, Isaac, David, Moisés, y Jesús, la paz sea con todos ellos, para nombrar solo a algunos de ellos, y las narra de manera clara y entendible. Investigué el Islam durante meses, compré un Sagrado Corán en una librería y estudié sobre el mundo y las contribuciones del Islam a la medicina y la ciencia.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Aprendí que España fue un país musulmán durante casi mil años, y que cuando los musulmanes fueron expulsados de España por los Reyes Católicos (Fernando e Isabel), los españoles cristianos llegaron a México y obligaron a los aztecas y otros pueblos a convertirse al catolicismo; la historia y mis raíces islámicas se hicieron más claras para mí.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Después de meses de estudiar e investigar, no podía seguir negando la verdad de la que me había alejado durante tanto tiempo, pero aún estaba viviendo la vida que tenía antes y sabía que si iba a hacerme musulmán tendría que renunciar a todo eso. Un día, mientras leía el Corán, comencé a llorar y caí de rodillas, y agradecí a Al-lah que me hubiera guiado hacia la verdad. Me enteré de que existía una mezquita cerca a mi casa, así que fui un viernes a ver cómo rezaban los musulmanes y cómo realizaban su servicio religioso. Vi que la gente de todos los colores y todas las razas asistían a la mezquita. Vi que se quitaban los zapatos al entrar y se sentaban en el piso alfombrado. Un hombre se levantó y comenzó a hacer el Adhán (el llamado a la oración), y cuando lo escuché, mis ojos se llenaron de lágrimas, sonaba muy hermoso, todo me era extraño al principio, pero me parecía correcto a la vez. El Islam no es solo una religión, es una forma de vida.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Después de asistir un par de viernes, estaba listo para hacerme musulmán y decir mi Shahada<\/em> (declaración de fe).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Le dije al Jatib<\/em> (persona que estaba dando la charla) que quería ser musulmán, y al siguiente viernes en frente de la comunidad, dije mi Shahada<\/em> primero en árabe y luego en inglés: Atestiguo que no hay otro dios sino Al-lah, y atestiguo que Muhammad es Su Mensajero.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Cuando terminé, un hermano grito: “¡Takbir!<\/em>”, y toda la comunidad dijo: “¡Al-lahu Ákbar!<\/em>” (Dios es el Más Grande) unas cuantas veces, luego todos los hermanos vinieron y me abrazaron. Nunca recibí tantos abrazos en un mismo día, nunca olvidaré que ese día fue genial. He sido musulmán desde 1997, estoy en paz conmigo mismo y claro en la religión, ser musulmán realmente ha cambiado mi vida para mejor, gracias a Dios Todopoderoso. Volví a la escuela a obtener mi título de bachiller y me capacité en reparación de computadores.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Tuve la bendición de ser capaz de realizar el Hayy<\/em> (peregrinación) a la Ciudad Sagrada de La Meca, fue una experiencia única en la vida, alrededor de tres millones de personas de todas las razas y colores en un mismo lugar, adorando juntos a Dios Todopoderoso, el Creador. Alhamdulil-lah<\/em> (alabado sea Dios), en diciembre de 2002, me casé en Marruecos con una muy buena mujer musulmana.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Creo que el Islam es la respuesta para los problemas de la juventud y de la sociedad en general. Espero que mi historia, in sha Al-lah<\/em> (si Dios quiere), atraiga a más latinos y personas de todas las razas a la luz del Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Je m’appelle Ali, j’ai 31 ans et je suis un Mexicain né aux États-Unis.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Je songe à faire un site web pour raconter aux gens mon parcours vers l’islam.  Je crois que ça pourrait, incha’Allah, aider les gens à mieux comprendre l’islam et à comprendre pourquoi j’ai été attiré par cette religion.  La plupart des gens ont une perception biaisée des musulmans et de l’islam et le peu qu’ils savent leur provient souvent de la télé, qui n’est pas du tout une bonne source d’information.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Ma vie avant l’islam était très dure.  J’ai gâché une grande partie de ma vie en quittant l’école avant la fin de mon secondaire.  Je traînais dans les rues avec mes amis, je faisais la fête, je buvais et vendais de la marijuana.  La plupart de mes amis faisaient partie de gangs de rue, mais je n’en ai jamais fait partie moi-même.  J’avais connu la plupart d’entre eux avant qu’ils ne tournent mal, alors ils me laissaient tranquille.  Petit à petit, je me mis à faire usage de drogues de plus en plus dures.  Plus je sombrais dans la déprime, plus je faisais usage de drogues pour me changer les idées.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Un jour, un de mes amis me dit qu’il savait où trouver de la très bonne marijuana et j’acceptai de l’accompagner à l’endroit en question.  Nous arrivâmes devant un appartement et y entrâmes.  Il y avait deux personnes à l’intérieur; nous nous assîmes et discutâmes un peu, puis ils nous montrèrent la marijuana.  Mon ami et moi en achetâmes et, comme nous nous apprêtions à partir, mon ami me dit que l’un des deux types nous invitait à son appartement, car il voulait lui donner un livre.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous nous rendîmes donc à l’appartement de ce type, où il offrit un livre à mon ami en lui conseillant de le lire et en lui disant que c’était susceptible de l’aider à passer au travers des problèmes qu’il vivait.  Sur le chemin du retour, je demandai à mon ami de me montrer le livre en question; il s’agissait du Coran.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Je n’avais jamais, de ma vie, entendu parler du Coran.  Je me mis à le feuilleter et à lire certains passages et, en lisant, je fus immédiatement convaincu que ce que je lisais était la vérité; c’était comme une gifle en plein visage, un réveil brutal.  Le Coran est tellement clair et si facile à comprendre.  Je fus impressionné par ce premier contact avec l’islam et je voulus en apprendre plus.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Je n’étais pourtant pas à la recherche d’une nouvelle religion; je me moquais de ceux qui fréquentaient l’église et il m’était arrivé de dire que Dieu n’existait probablement pas, même si, au fond, je savais bien qu’Il existait.  Deux jours plus tard, je me rendis à la bibliothèque et empruntai un Coran.  Je me mis à l’étudier; j’appris, à travers lui, à connaître le prophète Mohammed et je découvris la véritable histoire de Jésus, fils de Marie (que la paix soit sur eux).  Le Coran insiste beaucoup sur l’unicité de Dieu, sur le fait qu’Il ne possède ni fils ni associés; je trouvai cela intéressant, car je n’avais jamais compris le concept de trinité.  Le Coran décrit la naissance du prophète Jésus (que la paix soit sur lui) et sa mission prophétique.  Il y a également une sourate qui s’intitule Maryam (Marie) et qui raconte son histoire.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Enfant, j’étais toujours allé à la messe du samedi avec ma mère, qui était adventiste du septième jour, et ma sœur.  Je n’ai jamais été vraiment religieux, toutefois, et cessai de fréquenter l’église vers l’âge de 14 ou 15 ans.  Le reste de ma famille est catholique et je me suis souvent demandé pourquoi nous étions les seuls à être adventistes du septième jour.  Lorsque nous retournions visiter ma famille élargie, au Mexique, nous assistions aux mariages et autres célébrations dans une église catholique.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mohammed (que la paix et les bénédictions de Dieu soient sur lui) est le dernier messager envoyé par Dieu à l’humanité.  Le Coran nous raconte l’histoire des principaux prophètes tels Adam, Abraham, Noé, Isaac, David, Moïse et Jésus, pour ne nommer que ceux-là, et le fait de manière claire et facile à comprendre.  Je passai des mois à faire des recherches sur l’islam, j’achetai une traduction anglaise du Coran et lus également des ouvrages sur la contribution de l’islam à la médecine et à la science.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

J’appris que l’Espagne avait été largement musulmane durant presque un millénaire et que lorsque les musulmans avaient été expulsés d’Espagne par les monarques chrétiens (le roi Ferdinand et la reine Isabella), des Espagnols chrétiens s’étaient rendus en Amérique du Sud, et notamment au Mexique, et avaient forcé les Aztèques et d’autres peuples à devenir catholiques.  Ainsi, l’histoire et mes racines musulmanes se révélaient à moi.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Après des mois d’étude et de recherches, je ne pouvais plus nier la vérité.  Mais je savais également que si je souhaitais devenir musulman, j’allais devoir quitter ce mode de vie que je n’avais pas encore délaissé.  Un jour, alors que je lisais le Coran, je me mis à pleurer; je tombai à genoux et remerciai Allah de m’avoir guidé vers la vérité.  Je découvris qu’il y avait une mosquée non loin de chez moi et je m’y rendis, un vendredi, pour voir comment prient les musulmans.  Je remarquai que des gens de toutes les races et de toutes les couleurs entraient dans la mosquée.  Je les vis retirer leurs chaussures, en entrant, avant d’aller s’installer sur le sol tapissé de moquette.  Un homme se leva et entama l’adhan (appel à la prière).  En l’entendant, je trouvai cela tellement beau, je sentis mes yeux se remplir d’eau.  Tout ce à quoi j’assistais m’apparaissait à la fois étrange et familier.  L’islam est plus qu’une religion : c’est un mode de vie.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Après avoir assisté à une autre prière du vendredi, je me sentis près à devenir musulman et je prononçai la shahadah (attestation de foi).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Je dis au khatib (celui qui prononçait le sermon) que je voulais devenir musulman et le vendredi suivant, devant la salle comble, je prononçai la shahadah, d’abord en arabe, puis en anglais (j’atteste qu’il n’y a pas d’autre divinité à part Allah et que Mohammed est Son messager).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Dès que j’eus terminé de prononcer la shahadah, un frère cria « takbir ! » et toute l’assistance cria « Allahou akbar (Dieu est grand)! » à quelques reprises, puis tous les frères vinrent vers moi et me firent l’accolade.  Je n’avais jamais reçu autant d’étreintes en une seule journée et jamais je n’oublierai cet après-midi.  Je suis musulman depuis 1997 et je suis en paix avec moi-même.  Devenir musulman a vraiment changé ma vie pour le mieux, grâce à Dieu.  Je suis retourné à l’école pour terminer mon diplôme d’études secondaires et ensuite faire une formation en réparation d’ordinateurs.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Par la grâce de Dieu, j’ai fait le Hajj (pèlerinage à la Mecque); ce fut l’expérience d’une vie que de voir près de trois millions de gens de toutes les races et toutes les couleurs réunis en un seul lieu pour adorer Dieu, leur Créateur.  Alhamdoulillah (gloire à Dieu), en décembre 2002, je me suis marié, au Maroc, avec une très bonne musulmane.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Je crois que l’islam est la réponse aux problèmes des jeunes et de la société en général.  J’espère que mon histoire attirera plus de gens de toutes origines vers la lumière de l’islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mein Name ist Ali, ich bin ein 31 jähriger Mexikaner, der in Amerika Geboren wurde, besser gesagt ein Chicano.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Ich dachte mir, ich mache eine Website, um meine Geschichte zu erzählen, wie ich Muslim geworden bin.  Ich denke, das wird inschaAllah (wenn Gott will) den Menschen dabei helfen, den Islam zu verstehen und warum er mich angezogen hat.  Die Leute haben ein falsches Verständnis vom Islam und den Muslimen, das bisschen, was sie wissen, stammt meistens aus Filmen und Fernsehen, was größtenteils falsch ist.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mein voriges Leben war schlecht, ich hatte kein Lebensziel.  Ich vergeudete mein Leben, indem ich in der elften Klasse die Schule hinschmiss.  Ich hing für gewöhnlich mit meinen Freunden auf den Straßen herum, “feierte”, wurde “high”, trank und verkaufte Marihuana, die meisten meiner Freunde waren Gangmitglieder.  Ich kannte die meisten von ihnen bereits, bevor sie sich zum Schlechten wandten, so war dies kein Problem.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Ich fing langsam an, härtere Drogen zu nehmen, ich hatte Träume, aber sie schienen zu weit entfernt zu sein, um wahr werden zu können.  Je depressiver ich wurde, desto mehr wandte ich mich den Drogen zu - als zeitweilige Ausflucht. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Eines Tages erzählte mir ein Freund von mir, dass er wisse, wo man gute Marihuana her bekommen könne und ich stimmte zu, es auszuprobieren.  Wir kamen an und gingen in das Appartement hinein.  Es waren ein paar Leute drinnen; wir saßen herum und redeten ein wenig und probierten das Grass.  Mein Freund und ich kauften etwas und waren bereit zum Gehen, als mein Freund sagte, einer der Jungs habe uns in sein Appartement eingeladen, um ihm ein Buch zu geben.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Wir gingen zum Appartement des Jungen und als wie dort ankamen, gab er meinem Freund ein Buch, bat ihn, darin zu lesen und sagte, es könnte ihm bei seinen Problemen im Leben helfen.  Auf dem Weg nach Hause bat ich meinen Freund, mir das Buch zu zeigen, das ihm der Junge gegeben hatte; es war der Qur´an (Koran).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

In meinem ganzen Leben hatte ich nichts vom Heiligen Qur´an gehört, da fing ich an, kurz einige Seiten zu lesen; während ich las, wusste ich, dass das, was ich las wahr war: es war wie ein Schlag ins Gesicht, ein weckender Ruf.  Der Qur´an ist so klar und so leicht zu verstehen.  Ich war wirklich beeindruckt und wollte mehr über den Islam und Muslime erfahren. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Das seltsamste ist, dass ich gar nicht nach einer neuen Religion gesucht habe.  Ich pflegte über Menschen zu lachen, die zur Kirche gehen und öfters hatte ich gesagt, es gäbe keinen Gott.  Obwohl ich tief in mir wusste, dass es Ihn gab.  Ein paar Tage später beschloss ich, zur Bücherei zu gehen und den Qur´an auszuleihen.  Ich fing an, darin zu lesen und zu studieren, ich erfuhr vom Propheten Muhammad und die wahre Geschichte von Jesus, dem Sohn Marias (Friede sei mit ihm).  Der Qur´an betont die Tatsache, dass Gott Einer ist und keinen Partner oder Söhne besitzt, dies war für mich das interessanteste, denn ich hatte das Konzept von der Trinität nie verstanden.  Der Qur´an beschreibt die Geburt des Propheten Jesus, Friede sei mit ihm, und seine Botschaft.  Es gibt auch eine Sura (ein Kapitel), das nach Maryam (Maria) benannt ist und ihre Geschichte ebenfalls erzählt. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Als Kind war ich immer zur Kirche gegangen, meine Mutter war Adventistin und hat mich und meine Schwester jedem Samstag mitgenommen.  Ich war nie wirklich religiös gewesen und mit 14 oder 15 hörte ich auf zur Kirche zu gehen.  Der Rest meiner Familie war katholisch, und ich habe mich immer gewundert, warum wir Adventisten waren und der Rest der Familie katholisch.  Wenn wir unsere Familie in Mexiko besuchten, gingen wir zu einer katholischen Kirche zu Hochzeiten und Festtagen. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Muhammad, Gottes Segen und Frieden seien auf ihm, ist der letzte Gesandte Gottes, der zur gesamten Menschheit geschickt wurde.  Der Qur´an erzählt auch die Geschichten anderer Propheten wie Adam, Abraham, Noah, Isaak, David, Moses, Jesus (Friede sei mit ihnen allen), um nur einige zu nennen, in einer deutlichen und verständlichen Art.  Monatelang erforschte ich den Islam.  Ich kaufte in einem Buchladen einen Heiligen Qur´an und studierte die Beiträge der weltlichen Wissenschaft und die des Islam zur Medizin und den Wissenschaften. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Ich erfuhr, dass Spanien fast tausend Jahre lang ein muslimisches Land gewesen war und dass, als die Muslime vom christlichen König und der Königin (Ferdinand und Isabella) aus Spanien vertrieben worden sind, die christlichen Spanier nach Mexiko gekommen waren und die Azteken und andere gezwungen haben, Katholiken zu werden: die Geschichte und meine islamischen Wurzeln wurden mir immer klarer. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nach Monaten der Studien und Nachforschungen konnte ich die Wahrheit nicht länger leugnen, ich hatte es schon zu lange hinaus gezögert, aber ich lebte immer noch dasselbe Leben wie zuvor, und ich wusste, dass ich dies alles aufgeben musste, wenn ich Muslim würde.  Eines Tages als ich Qur´an las, begann ich zu weinen und fiel auf meine Knie, um Allah dafür zu danken, dass Er mich zur Wahrheit geführt hat.  Ich fand heraus, dass es in der Nähe meines Hauses eine Moschee gab und an einem Freitag ging ich dorthin um zu sehen, wie die Muslime beten und ihren Gottesdienst abhalten.  Ich sah, dass Menschen aller Rassen zur Moschee kamen.  Ich sah, wie sie beim Eintreten ihre Schuhe auszogen und auf dem mit Teppich ausgelegten Fußboden saßen.  Ein Mann stand auf und fing an, Adhan (den Gebetsruf) zu machen.  Als ich das hörte, füllten sich meine Augen mit Tränen, so wunderschön klang er; es war alles so fremd für mich, aber gleichzeitig so richtig.  Der Islam ist nicht nur eine Religion, sondern eine Lebensweise. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nachdem ich ein paar Freitage dorthin gegangen war, war ich bereit, ein Muslim zu sein und meine Schahada (das Glaubensbekenntnis) auszusprechen.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Ich teilte dem Khatib (der Person, die den Vortrag hält) mit, dass ich ein Muslim werden wolle und am folgenden Freitag sprach ich meine Schahada vor der Gemeinde zuerst auf arabisch und dann auf englisch aus.  \"Es gibt keine (wahre) Gottheit außer Gott (Allah), und Muhammad ist der Gesandte (Prophet) Gottes.\"<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Als ich fertig war, rief ein Bruder laut den Takbir! Und die ganze Gemeinde rief: „Allahu akbar! (Gott ist groß)“ mehrere Male, dann kamen all die Brüder und umarmten mich.  Ich bin noch nie so oft an einem Tag umarmt worden; diesen großartigen Tag werde ich niemals vergessen.  Seit 1997 bin ich Muslim, ich habe mit mir und in dieser Religion Frieden gefunden; Muslim zu sein, hat mein Leben wirklich zum Besseren verändert, Gott dem Allmächtigen sei Dank.  Ich ging zur Schule zurück, um meinen High School Abschluss und eine Computer Reparatur Ausbildung zu erhalten.  .<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mir wurde der Segen zuteil, Hajj (Pilgerreise) zur Heiligen Stadt Mekka machen zu dürfen, es war die wichtigste Erfahrung meines Lebens, etwa dreiMillionen Menschen von jeder Rasse und Farbe waren an einem Ort, um den Allmächtigen Gott, unseren Schöpfer anzubeten.  Alhamdulillah (Gepriesen sei Gott im Dezember 2002 heiratete ich in Marokko eine sehr gute muslimische Frau. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Ich denke, dass der Islam die Antwort auf die Probleme der Jugend und die der Gesellschaft im allgemeinen bietet.  Ich hoffe, meine Geschichte wird in schaa Allah (wenn Gott will) mehr Latinos und andere Menschen aller Rassen zum Licht des Islam ziehen. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Meu nome é Ali.  Sou um mexicano de 31 anos de idade nascido na América ou, como alguns diriam, um chicano.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Pensei em fazer um site para contar a história de como me tornei muçulmano.  Acho que ajudará insh’Alllah (se Deus quiser) as pessoas a compreender o Islã e como ele me atraiu.  As pessoas têm a percepção errada sobre o Islã e os muçulmanos e o pouco que sabem é geralmente de filmes e televisão, quase tudo falso.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Minha vida antes era ruim e eu não tinha direção na vida.  Estava desperdiçando minha vida porque sai da escola no ensino fundamental.  Andava nas ruas com meus amigos me drogando, bebendo e vendendo maconha e a maioria dos meus amigos eram membros de gangues. Eu mesmo nunca tinha feito parte de uma gangue.  Conhecia a maioria deles antes de terem ficado maus e, por isso, não havia problema.  Lentamente comecei a usar drogas mais pesadas. Tinha sonhos, mas parecia muito distante torná-los realidade.  Quanto mais deprimido ficava, mais me voltava para as drogas como fuga temporária.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Um dia um amigo meu me disse que sabia onde conseguir maconha boa e concordei em verificar.  Chegamos e entramos nesse apartamento. Havia poucas pessoas lá dentro. Sentamos, conversamos um pouco e experimentamos a erva.  Meu amigo e eu compramos um pouco e estávamos prontos para sair quando meu amigo disse que um dos rapazes lá nos convidou para seu apartamento, para dar um livro a ele.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Fomos para o apartamento desse rapaz e quando chegamos lá, ele deu um livro ao meu amigo e pediu que o lesse. Disse que poderia ajudá-lo com seus problemas na vida.  No caminho de volta para casa pedi ao meu amigo que me mostrasse o livro e era o Alcorão.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nunca tinha ouvido falar do Alcorão Sagrado e comecei a ler rapidamente algumas páginas e enquanto lia soube que era verdadeiro. Era como um tapa no rosto, um chamado para acordar.  O Alcorão é muito claro e fácil de entender.  Realmente me impressionou e quis saber mais sobre o Islã e os muçulmanos.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A coisa mais estranha é que não estava procurando por uma nova religião. Costumava rir das pessoas que iam à igreja e às vezes dizia que Deus não existia. Embora no fundo soubesse que existia.  Decidi ir à biblioteca alguns dias depois e checar o Alcorão.  Comecei a lê-lo e estudá-lo. Aprendi sobre o profeta Muhammad e a história verdadeira de Jesus, filho de Maria (que a paz esteja sobre ele).  O Alcorão enfatizava o fato de que Deus é um e não tinha parceiros ou um filho e isso era o mais interessante, porque nunca entendi o conceito de trindade.  O Alcorão descreve o nascimento do profeta Jesus, que a paz esteja sobre ele, e sua missão.  Também há uma surata (capítulo) chamado Maryam (Maria) que conta a história dela.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Quando criança sempre ia à igreja. Minha mãe era adventista do sétimo dia e levava minha irmã e eu todos os sábados.  Nunca fui religioso e parei de ir à igreja quando tinha 14 ou 15 anos.  O resto de minha família é católica e sempre me perguntei por que éramos adventistas e o resto da família era católica.  Quando visitávamos minha família no México íamos à igreja católica para casamentos e celebrações.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Muhammad, que a misericórdia e bênçãos de Deus estejam sobre ele, é o último mensageiro de Deus enviado para toda a humanidade.  O Alcorão conta a história de todos os profetas como Adão, Abraão, Noé, Isaque, Davi, Moisés, Jesus (que a paz esteja sobre todos eles) para mencionar apenas alguns, de maneira clara e compreensível.  Fiz meses de pesquisa sobre o Islã e comprei um Alcorão Sagrado em uma livraria. Estudei sobre o mundo e as contribuições do Islã para a medicina e a ciência.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Aprendi que a Espanha foi um país muçulmano por quase mil anos e que quando os muçulmanos foram expulsos da Espanha pelo rei e a rainha cristãos (Ferdinando e Isabela), os espanhóis cristãos vieram para o México e forçaram os astecas e os demais a se tornarem católicos. A história e minhas raízes islâmicas estavam ficando claras para mim.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Depois de meses de estudo e pesquisa não podia mais negar a verdade e já tinha adiado por tempo demais, mas continuava vivendo a vida de antes e sabia que se me tornasse muçulmano teria que deixar tudo aquilo.  Um dia, enquanto lia o Alcorão, comecei a chorar, caí de joelhos e agradeci a Allah por me guiar para a verdade.  Descobri que havia uma mesquita perto de minha casa e, assim, fui uma sexta-feira para ver como os muçulmanos oravam e conduziam seu serviço religioso.  Vi que pessoas de todas as raças e cores frequentavam a mesquita.  Vi que tiravam seus sapatos quando entravam e sentavam no chão atapetado.  Um homem se levantou e começou a chamar o Adhan (o chamado para a oração) e quando o ouvi meus olhos encheram-se de lágrimas. Soava muito belo e era tudo muito estranho a princípio, mas parecia tão certo, ao mesmo tempo.  O Islã não é apenas uma religião, mas um modo de vida.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Depois de frequentar algumas sextas-feiras estava pronto para ser um muçulmano e disse minha shahada (declaração de fé).<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Disse ao khatib (pessoa que faz o sermão) que queria ser muçulmano e na sexta-feira seguinte, na frente da comunidade, disse minha shahada primeiro em árabe e depois em português: Testemunho que não há deus exceto Allah e testemunho que Muhammad é Seu mensageiro.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Quando terminei um irmão gritou Takbir! e todos da comunidade disseram: “Allahu Akbar (Deus é maior)!” algumas vezes. Então todos os irmãos vieram e me abraçaram.  Nunca recebi tantos abraços em um dia e nunca esquecerei que aquele dia foi maravilhoso.  Sou muçulmano desde 1997. Estou em paz comigo mesmo e tranquilo na religião. Ser muçulmano realmente mudou minha vida para melhor, graças a Deus Todo Poderoso.  Voltei para a escola para fazer o segundo grau e o curso de manutenção de computadores.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Tive a bênção de ser capaz de fazer o Hajj (peregrinação) à cidade sagrada de Meca. Foi a experiência de uma vida. Aproximadamente 3 milhões de pessoas de todas as raças e cores em um lugar adorando Deus Todo Poderoso, o Criador. Alhamdulillah (louvado seja Deus) em dezembro de 2002 casei-me no Marrocos, com uma muçulmana muito boa.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Acho que o Islã é a resposta para os problemas da juventude e da sociedade em geral.  Espero que minha história, insh’Allah (se Deus quiser), atraia mais latinos e pessoas de todas as raças para a luz do Islã.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
