First of all, I would like to start by saying that this true story is not for my own fame or admiration, but for the sake of my Lord and your Lord God.  All praises due to God, the Lord of the worlds, the Beneficent, the Merciful Owner of the day of judgment.  I would like to repeat to you something I heard: the journey of a thousand miles has to start with the first step, and this is the first part of my journey.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

My name is Malik Mohammed Hassan, and I have recently converted to Islam.  When I was in junior high school, I was first introduced to Islam by reading the book Roots<\/em> by Alex Haley.  It taught me a little bit about the strong will that most Muslims possess, myself included.  It also introduced me to Allah.  I had never heard of Allah in his real form until I read that book, and I was very curious.  I then started reading about The Nation of Islam (specifically Malcolm X), and it fascinated me how devoted he was to God, especially after he left the self serving Nation of Islam.  Reading about Malcolm made me think about a God who (for a change) did not have any physical … limitations and, being a totally blind person, it made me relate to these people: the people who Malcolm and Haley referred to as Muslims.  I continued reading what I could about Islam, which wasn’t as much as it should have been.  My reading material was very limited, because like I said above, I am a totally blind person, and the material available about Islam in Braille or on tape was not only very little, but also very general.  I believe the reason was that the material that I had access to wasn’t written by Muslims, and it kind of painted a dark picture of Islam.  I think most of the literature written by Christians or non Muslims about Islam tends to do that most of the time.  And I didn’t know that there were even Muslims in Halifax, so I obviously didn’t know any.  I didn’t even know about the local Islamic association until I was already a Muslim.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

So I read what I could until my first year out of high school, around the month of May, 1996, when I received a phone call asking me if I wanted to participate in a camp for blind and visually impaired people, known throughout Canada as Score.  I agreed and sent them a resume, and praise be to God, I was excepted for work.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

At first, I really didn’t want to go, but something kept telling me it would be a good idea if I went.  So, on June 30th 1996 I boarded a plane from Nova Scotia to Toronto and took my last trip as a non Muslim; I just didn’t know it yet.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I got to Toronto, and everything at first was pretty normal...  It was on the second day I was there when the journey of a thousand miles first started.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

I arrived on a Sunday, and on the next day I met the person who God would use with His divine power to help guide me to the beautiful Religion of Islam.  I met a sister named [xxxx], and if she reads this, I hope she doesn’t get mad at me for using her name.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

When I met her, I immediately wanted to talk to her because I liked her name.  I asked her of what origin her name was and she told me that it was Arabic; so I asked her if she was Muslim and she replied with the answer of yes.  I immediately started telling her what I already knew about Islam, which lasted about ten seconds.  I started asking her questions and also asking her to talk to me about Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

One particular incident that comes to my mind is when all of the workers at the camp went to a baseball game, and the sister and I started talking about Islam and missed pretty much the whole game.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Well, anyways, we talked for about three, maybe four days on and off about Islam, and on July the fifth, if my memory doesn’t fail me, I became a Muslim.  My life has been totally different ever since.  I look at things very differently than I used to and I finally feel like I belong to a family.  All Muslims are brothers and sisters in Islam so I could say that I have approximately 1.2 billion brothers and sisters all of whom I’m proud to be related to.  I finally know what it feels like to be humble and to worship a God that I don’t have to see.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

For any non Muslim reading this, just look at it this way.  It’s good to learn, but you never know when you will be tested, and if you’re not in the class at the time of the final exam, no matter how much you know, you’ll never get any credit.  So like I said, it’s good to learn, but if you want to get credit, sign up for the class.  In other words, declare shahada (testimony to faith) and let God teach you everything you need to know.  Believe me the reward is worth it.  You could say the reward is literally heaven.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

If any good comes out of this story all the credit is due to God; only the mistakes are my own.  I would like to mention a part of a hadeeth that has had a great effect on me and that is:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Worship God as if you see him and if you don’t see him, know that he sees you.” (Saheeh Muslim<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Antes que nada, me gustaría comenzar diciendo que esta historia verdadera no es por mi propia fama o admiración, sino por la causa de mi Señor y tu Señor, Dios. Todas las alabanzas se deben a Dios, el Señor de los mundos, el Generoso, el Misericordioso, Soberano del día del Juicio Final. Me gustaría repetirles algo que escuché: un viaje de cientos de millas ha comenzado con el primer paso, y este es el primer paso de mi viaje.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mi nombre es Malik Mohammed Hassan, y hace poco que me he convertido al Islam. Cuando estaba en la escuela primaria, me topé con el Islam al leer el libroRaíces<\/em> de Alex Haley. Me enseñó un poco acerca del fuerte deseo que poseen los musulmanes, incluso yo. También me topé con Allah. Nunca había escuchado nada acerca de Allah en su forma real hasta que leí este libro, y fue muy curioso. Continué leyendo lo que pude sobre el Islam, que no fue tanto como podría haber sido. Mi material de lectura era muy limitado, porque como ya he dicho, soy una persona totalmente ciega, y el material disponible acerca del Islam en Braile o en audio era muy escaso y muy general. Creo que era porque el material al que yo tenía acceso no había sido escrito por musulmanes, y mostraban lo más oscuro del Islam. Creo que la mayoría de la literatura escrita por cristianos y no musulmanes acerca del Islam tiende a hacer eso todo el tiempo. Tampoco sabía que había musulmanes en Halifak, por lo tanto, no conocía a ninguno. Tampoco conocía la asociación islámica local hasta que me convertí en musulmán.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Por lo tanto, leí lo que pude hasta mi primer año en la escuela secundaria, en el mes de mayo, en 1996, cuando recibí una llamada ofreciéndome la participación en un campamento para personas ciegas y visualmente imposibilitadas, conocido en Canadá como Score<\/em>. Acepté y les envié una hoja de vida, y gracias a Dios, me aceptaron para trabajar.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Al principio, realmente no quería ir, pero algo me decía que sería una buena idea ir. Entonces, el 30 de Junio de 1996 abordé un avión de Nueva Escocia hasta Toronto y realicé mi último viaje como no musulmán; solo que todavía no lo sabía.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Llegué a Toronto, y todo fue bastante normal al principio… fue el segundo día cuando comenzó el viaje de cientos de millas.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Llegué un domingo, y al próximo día conocí a una persona que utilizó su poder divino para ayudarme en el hermoso camino de la religión del Islam. Conocí a una hermana llamada [xxxx], y si lee esto, espero que no se enoje al ver su nombre.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Cuando la conocí, quise hablar con ella inmediatamente porque me gustó su nombre. Le pregunte de que origen era su nombre y me dijo que era árabe; entonces le pregunté si era musulmana y me respondió que si. Inmediatamente comencé a contarle lo que ya sabía del Islam, que duró unos diez segundos. Comencé a hacerle preguntas y también le pedí que me enseñara acerca del Islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Un incidente particular que me viene a la mente es cuando todos los trabajadores del campamento fueron a un juego de baseball, y la hermana comenzó a hablarme del Islam y se perdió casi todo el juego.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Bien, de todos modos, hablamos unos tres, tal vez cuatro días acerca del Islam, y el 5 de Julio, si mi memoria no me falla, me convertí en musulmán. Mi vida ha sido totalmente diferente desde entonces. Percibo las cosas de un modo diferente y finalmente siento que pertenezco a una familia. Todos los musulmanes son hermanos y hermanas en el Islam por lo que debo tener aproximadamente unos 1.2 mil millones de hermanos y hermanas de los cuales me enorgullezco ser parte. Finalmente sé lo que se siente ser humilde y adorar a un Dios imperceptible a los cinco sentidos.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Para todo no-musulmán que lea esto, solo piensen en esto. Es bueno aprender, pero nunca sabes cuando serás probado, y si no te encuentras en la clase en el momento del examen final, sin importar cuanto sepas, nunca recibirás ningún crédito. Por lo tanto he dicho, es bueno aprender, pero si quieres recibir los créditos, apúntate a la clase. En otras palabras, declarar la Shahadah (testimonio de fe) y dejar que Dios te enseñe todo lo que necesitas saber. Créeme la recompensa vale la pena. Se podría decir que la recompensa es literalmente el cielo.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Si sale algo bueno de esta historia todo es gracias a Dios; solo los errores son míos. Me gustaría mencionar un dicho del Profeta Muhammad que tuvo un gran efecto en mí:<\/span><\/p>\r\n

“Adora a Dios como si lo vieras y a pesar de que no lo ves, sabe que Él si te ve a ti”. (Sahih Muslim<\/em>)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Premièrement, j’aimerais commencer en précisant que cette histoire vraie, je ne la raconte pas pour être admiré ou pour m’attirer une certaine notoriété; je ne la raconte que par amour pour mon Seigneur et le vôtre.  Toutes les louanges Lui reviennent, le Seigneur des mondes, le Bienfaisant, le Miséricordieux Maître du jour du Jugement.  J’aimerais vous transmettre une chose que j’ai entendue : un voyage de mille kilomètres doit commencer avec le premier pas, et ceci est la première partie de mon voyage.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mon nom est Malik Mohammed Hassan, et je me suis récemment converti à l’islam.  C’est lorsque j’étais à l’école secondaire que j’ai connu l’islam pour la première fois, en lisant le livre Roots<\/em>, d’Alex Haley.  J’y ai découvert la forte volonté que possèdent la plupart des musulmans, moi y compris.  J’y ai aussi découvert Allah.  Je n’avais jamais entendu parler d’Allah tel qu’Il est avant de lire ce livre et cela aiguisa ma curiosité.  Je lus ensuite sur Malcolm X et je fus fasciné par sa dévotion envers Dieu, surtout après qu’il eût quitté la très intéressée Nation of Islam.  Lire sur Malcolm me fit découvrir un Dieu qui, pour une fois, n’était pas physiquement limité et, comme je suis un aveugle, je sentis que je pouvais vraiment comprendre ces gens, c’est-à-dire ceux que Malcolm et Haley appelaient musulmans.  Je poursuivis mes lectures sur l’islam, mais pas autant que je l’aurais souhaité, toutefois.  Les ouvrages que je pouvais lire étaient limités car, comme je l’ai mentionné précédemment, je suis aveugle et les ouvrages sur l’islam disponibles en braille ou sur cassette sont non seulement rares, mais souvent trop généraux.  Malheureusement, la plupart des ouvrages sur l’islam en braille n’ont pas été écrits par des musulmans et dressent généralement un portrait sombre de l’islam.  Je crois que la majorité des livres sur l’islam écrits par des chrétiens ou des non-musulmans sont pour la plupart tendancieux.  De plus, je ne savais même pas qu’il y avait des musulmans à Halifax, alors évidemment, je n’en connaissais aucun.  Et jusqu’à ce que je sois musulman, j’ignorais même qu’il existait une association islamique locale.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Je lus donc ce que je pus trouver jusqu’à la fin de mes études secondaires.  Un jour, vers le mois de mai 1996, je reçus un appel d’une personne me demandant si j’étais intéressé à participer à un camp d’été pour personnes handicapées visuellement, connu au Canada sous le nom de Score.  J’acceptai et leur envoyai mon cv et, gloire à Dieu, ils m’acceptèrent.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Au départ, je n’étais pas particulièrement enthousiaste à l’idée d’y aller, mais j’avais le sentiment que je devais le faire.  C’est ainsi que le 30 juin 1996, je pris l’avion de la Nouvelle-Écosse à Toronto; c’était mon dernier voyage en tant que non-musulman, mais je l’ignorais alors.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Lorsque j’arrivai à Toronto, tout se passa normalement.  C’est lors de ma deuxième journée là-bas que débuta mon voyage de mille kilomètres.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

J’étais arrivé le dimanche et le jour suivant, je rencontrai la personne dont Dieu, de par Son pouvoir divin, allait se servir comme intermédiaire pour me guider à cette merveilleuse religion qu’est l’islam.  Je rencontrai une sœur en islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Lorsque je la rencontrai, je voulus tout de suite lui parler parce que je trouvais son nom joli.  Je lui demandai de quelle origine il était et elle me dit que c’était un nom arabe.  Je lui demandai alors si elle était musulmane et elle me répondit que oui.  Immédiatement, je lui dis tout ce que je savais sur l’islam, ce qui ne me prit que quelques secondes…  Je lui posai des questions et lui demandai de me parler de l’islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Une anecdote qui me revient à l’esprit est celle du jour où nous étions allés, tous les employés du camp, assister à une partie de baseball et où cette sœur et moi avions passé toute la partie à parler d’islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Nous avons parlé d’islam durant trois ou quatre jours d’affilée, et le cinq juillet, si ma mémoire est bonne, j’ai embrassé l’islam.  Ma vie a totalement changé depuis.  Je vois les choses de façon différente maintenant et je sens enfin que je fais partie d’une vraie famille.  Tous les musulmans sont frères et sœurs en islam, alors je peux dire que j’ai près de 1,2 milliards de frères et sœurs et que je suis très fier de faire partie de la même famille qu’eux.  Je sais maintenant ce que cela signifie que de se sentir humble et d’adorer un Dieu que je n’ai pas besoin de voir.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Si vous n’êtes pas musulman et que vous lisez ceci, j’aimerais vous dire qu’il est bon d’apprendre, mais vous ne savez jamais à quel moment vous serez mis à l’épreuve; et si vous n’êtes pas dans la classe au moment de l’examen final, peu importe l’étendue de vos connaissances, vous n’obtiendrez aucun résultat.  Il est donc bien d’apprendre, mais si vous voulez que cela vous rapporte, inscrivez-vous au cours.  En d’autres termes, prononcez la shahadah (profession de foi) et laissez Dieu vous enseigner tout ce que vous avez besoin de savoir.  Croyez-moi, la récompense en vaut la peine.  Car cette récompense n’est rien de moins que le Paradis.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Si quelque bien découle de cette histoire, le mérite en revient à Dieu.  Et si j’ai fait des erreurs, elles ne viennent que de moi.  J’aimerais citer une partie d’un hadith qui a eu une grande influence sur moi :<\/span><\/p>\r\n

« Adorez Dieu comme si vous le voyiez; et si vous ne le voyez pas, sachez que Lui vous voit. » (Sahih Mouslim<\/em>)<\/strong> <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Antes de tudo, gostaria de começar dizendo que essa história verdadeira não é para minha própria fama ou admiração, mas em nome de meu Senhor e seu Senhor Deus.  Todos os louvores são para Deus, o Senhor dos mundos, o Beneficente, o Proprietário Misericordioso do dia do julgamento.  Gostaria de repetir algo que ouvi: a jornada de mil quilômetros tem que começar com o primeiro passo, e essa é a primeira parte de minha jornada.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Meu nome é Malik Mohammed Hassan e recentemente me converti ao Islã.  Quando estava no segundo grau fui apresentado ao Islã ao ler o livro Raízes<\/em> de Alex Haley.  Ensinou-me um pouco sobre a forte determinação que a maioria dos muçulmanos possui, eu mesmo inclusive.  Também me introduziu a Allah.  Nunca tinha ouvido de Allah em sua forma real até ler aquele livro, e estava muito curioso.  Então comecei a ler sobre a Nação do Islã (especificamente Malcom X) e me fascinou o quanto ele era devotado a Deus, especialmente depois que deixou a Nação do Islã.  Ler sobre Malcom me fez pensar sobre um Deus que não tinha quaisquer limitações... físicas e, por ser uma pessoa totalmente cega, fez com que me relacionasse com essas pessoas: as pessoas que Malcom e Haley chamavam de muçulmanas.  Continuei a ler o que pude sobre o Islã, o que não foi tanto quanto deveria ter sido.  Meu material de leitura era muito limitado porque, como disse antes, sou uma pessoa totalmente cega e o material disponível sobre Islã em Braille ou em tape não apenas era muito pouco, mas também muito geral.  Acredito que a razão era que o material que tive acesso não foi escrito por muçulmanos e de certa forma pintei um quadro negativo do Islã.  Acho que a maioria da literatura escrita por cristãos ou não-muçulmanos sobre o Islã tende a fazer isso na maior parte do tempo.  E eu não sabia que existiam muçulmanos em Halifax então, obviamente, não conhecia nenhum.  Nem sabia sobre a associação islâmica local até que já era muçulmano.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Então li o que pude até meu primeiro ano fora do segundo grau, por volta do mês de maio de 1996, quando recebi uma ligação me perguntando se queria participar em um acampamento para cegos e pessoas com visão debilitada, conhecido no Canadá como Score.  Concordei e enviei para eles um currículo, e louvado seja Deus, fui aceito para o trabalho.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A princípio realmente não queria ir, mas algo ficava me dizendo que seria uma boa idéia se eu fosse.  Então, em 30 de junho de 1996 entrei em um avião de Nova Scotia para Toronto e fiz minha última viagem como um não-muçulmano, mas ainda não sabia.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Cheguei a Toronto e tudo a princípio era muito normal...  Foi no segundo dia que estava lá que começou a jornada de mil quilômetros.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Cheguei em um domingo e no dia seguinte encontrei a pessoa que Deus usaria com Seu poder divino para me guiar para a bela religião do Islã.  Encontrei uma irmã chamada [xxxx] e, se ela ler isso, espero que não fique zangada comigo por usar seu nome.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Quando a encontrei, imediatamente queria falar com ela porque gostou do seu nome.  Perguntei qual a origem do seu nome e ela me disse que era árabe; então perguntei se ela era muçulmana e ela respondeu dizendo que sim.  Imediatamente comecei a dizer a ele o que já sabia sobre o Islã, o que durou em torno de dez segundos.  Comecei fazendo perguntas e também pedindo a ela para falar comigo sobre o Islã.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Um incidente em particular que vem à minha mente foi quando todos os trabalhadores no campo foram para um jogo de beisebol, e a irmã e eu começamos a falar sobre Islã e perdi a maior parte do jogo.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Bem, de qualquer forma, conversamos por aproximadamente três, talvez quatro dias sobre o Islã, e em cinco de julho, se minha memória não falha, me tornei um muçulmano.  Minha vida tem sido totalmente diferente desde então.  Olho para as coisas de forma muito diferente do que costumava olhar e finalmente sinto que pertenço a uma família.  Todos os muçulmanos são irmãos e irmãs no Islã e posso dizer que tenho aproximadamente 1, 2 bilhões de irmãos e irmãs com os quais tenho orgulho de estar relacionado.   Finalmente sei o que é ser humilde e adorar a um Deus que não tenho que ver.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Para qualquer não-muçulmano que esteja lendo, apenas veja as coisas dessa forma.  É bom aprender, mas você nunca sabe quando será testado, e se não estiver na aula na hora do exame final, não importa o quanto você sabe, nunca receberá qualquer crédito.  Então, como eu disse, é bom aprender, mas se você quer o crédito, se inscreve para a aula.  Em outras palavras, declare a shahada (testemunho de fé) e deixe que Deus ensine a você tudo que precisa saber.  Acredite que a recompensa vale a pena.  Você pode dizer que a recompensa é literalmente o paraíso.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Se qualquer bem vem dessa história todo o crédito é devido a Deus; apenas os erros são meus.  Gostaria de mencionar uma parte de um hadith que tem tido grande efeito em mim e que é:<\/span><\/p>\r\n
