The story of how I reverted to al Islam is a story of plans.  I made plans; the group I was with made plans, and Allah made plans.  And Allah is the Best of Planners.  When I was a teenager, I came to the attention of a group of people with a very sinister agenda.  They were and probably still are a loose association of individuals who work in government positions but have a special agenda — to destroy Islam.  It is not a governmental group that I am aware of, they simply use their positions in the US government to advance their cause.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

One member of this group approached me because he saw that I was articulate, motivated and very much the women’s rights advocate.  He told me that if I studied International Relations with an emphasis in the Middle East, he would guarantee me a job at the American Embassy in Egypt.  He wanted me to eventually go there to use my position in the country to talk to Muslim women and encourage the fledgling women’s rights movement.  I thought this was a great idea.  I had seen the Muslim women on TV; I knew they were a poor oppressed group, and I wanted to lead them to the light of 20th century freedom.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

With this intention, I went to college and began my education.  I studied Quran, hadith and Islamic history.  I also studied the ways I could use this information.  I learned how to twist the words to say what I wanted them to say.  It was a valuable tool.  Once I started learning, however, I began to be intrigued by this message.  It made sense.  That was very scary.  Therefore, in order to counteract this effect, I began to take classes in Christianity.  I chose to take classes with this one professor on campus because he had a good reputation and he had a Ph.D. in Theology from Harvard University.  I felt I was in good hands.  I was, but not for the reasons I thought.  It turns out that this professor was a Unitarian Christian.  He did not believe in the trinity or the divinity of Jesus.  In actuality, he believed that Jesus was a prophet.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

He proceeded to prove this by taking the bible from its sources in Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic and show where they were changed.  As he did this, he showed the historical events which shaped and followed these changes.  By the time I finished this class, my deen [religion] had been destroyed, but I was still not ready to accept Islam.  As time went on, I continued to study, for myself and for my future career.  This took about three years.  In this time, I would question Muslims about their beliefs.  One of the Individuals I questioned was a Muslim brother with the MSA [Muslim Students’ Association].  Alhamdulllah, he saw my interest in the deen, and made it a personal effort to educate me about Islam.  May Allah increase his reward.  He would give me dawaa [i.e. tell me about Islam] at every opportunity which presented itself.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

One day, this man contacts me, and he tells me about a group of Muslims who were visiting in town.  He wanted me to meet them.  I agreed.  I went to meet with them after Ishaa [night] prayer.  I was led to a room with at least 20 men in it.  They all made space for me to sit, and I was placed face to face with an elderly Pakistani gentleman.  Mashallah, this brother was a very knowledgeable man in matters of Christianity.  He and I discussed and argued the varying parts of the bible and the Quran until the fajr [dawn prayer].  At this point, after having listened to this wise man tell me what I already knew, based on the class I had taken in Christianity, he did what no other individual had ever done.  He invited me to become a Muslim.  In the three years I had been searching and researching, no one had ever invited me.  I had been taught, argued with and even insulted, but never invited.  May Allah guide us all.  So when he invited me, it clicked.  I realized this was the time.  I knew it was the truth, and I had to make a decision.  Alhamdulillah [All praise be to Allah], Allah opened my heart, and I said, “Yes.  I want to be a Muslim.”  With that, the man led me in the shahadah [the testimony of faith] - in English and in Arabic.  I swear by Allah that when I took the shahadah, I felt the strangest sensation.  I felt as if a huge, physical weight had just been lifted off my chest; I gasped for breath as if I were breathing for the first time in my life.  Alhamdulillah, Allah had given me a new life — a clean slate — a chance for Jennah [Paradise], and I pray that I live the rest of my days and die as a Muslim.  Ameen.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

La historia de cómo regresé al Islam es una historia de planes. Hice planes, el grupo con el que estaba hizo planes, y Allah hizo planes. Y Allah es El Mejor de los Planificadores. Cuando era adolescente, me llamó la atención un grupo de personas con una agenda muy siniestra. Eran, y probablemente sigan siendo, una organización independiente de individuos que trabajan en posiciones gubernamentales pero tienen una agenda especial: destruir el Islam. No es un grupo del gobierno, que yo sepa, simplemente utilizan sus posiciones dentro del gobierno de los Estados Unidos para promover su causa.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Un miembro de este grupo se me acercó porque vio que yo era elocuente, estaba motivada y defendía con ahínco los derechos de las mujeres. Me dijo que si estudiaba Relaciones Internacionales con énfasis en Oriente Medio, me garantizaba un trabajo en la Embajada Estadounidense en Egipto. Quería que yo fuera allí y usara mi posición en el país para hablarle a las mujeres musulmanas y estimular el naciente movimiento por los derechos de las mujeres. Pensé que esa era una gran idea. Había visto las mujeres musulmanas por la televisión, sabía que eran un grupo de pobres oprimidas, y quería llevarlas a la luz de la libertad del siglo XX.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Con esta intención, fui a la universidad y comencé mi educación. Estudié Corán, hadiz e historia islámica. También estudié las formas en que podía utilizar esta información. Aprendí cómo retorcer las palabras para decir lo que les quería decir. Fue una herramienta invaluable. Una vez comencé a aprender, sin embargo, me comencé a sentir intrigada por este mensaje. Tenía sentido para mí. Eso fue aterrador. Sin embargo, para contrarrestar este efecto, comencé a tomar clases de Cristianismo. Elegí tomar clases con un profesor de la universidad que tenía buena reputación y un doctorado en Teología de la Universidad de Harvard. Me sentía en buenas manos. Y lo estaba, pero no por las razones que creía. Resultó ser que este profesor era cristiano unitario. Él no creía en la trinidad ni en la divinidad de Jesús. En realidad, él creía que Jesús fue un profeta.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Con el paso del tiempo, continué estudiando por mi cuenta y para mi futura carreta. Esto me tomó cerca de tres años. En este tiempo, cuestionaría a los musulmanes sobre sus creencias. Uno de los individuos que cuestioné fue un hermano musulmán de la Asociación de Estudiantes Musulmanes (MSA, por sus siglas en inglés). Alhamdulillah, él vio mi interés en el din e hizo un esfuerzo personal en educarme sobre el Islam. Que Allah aumente su recompensa. Él me daba dawa [es decir, me hablaba sobre el Islam] en cada oportunidad que tenía.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Un día, este hombre me contactó, y me contó de un grupo de musulmanes que estaban de visita en la ciudad. Quería que los conociera. Accedí. Fui a reunirme con ellos después de la oración de Isha<\/em> [noche] prayer. Ingresé a un salón con al menos 20 hombres en él. Ellos hicieron espacio para que pudiera sentarme, y me ubicaron cara a cara con un anciano paquistaní. Mashallah, este hermano tenía mucho conocimiento sobre el Cristianismo. Discutimos y debatimos diferentes partes de la Biblia y del Corán hasta la oración del fayr<\/span><\/em> [alba]. En ese momento, después de haber escuchado a este sabio decirme lo que yo ya sabía gracias a la clase que había tomado sobre Cristianismo, él hizo lo que no había hecho nunca ningún otro. Me invitó a hacerme musulmana. En los tres años que había estado buscando e investigando, nadie me había hecho esa invitación. Me habían enseñado, debatido y hasta insultado, pero nunca invitado. Que Allah nos guíe a todos. Así que cuando él me invitó, algo en mí hizo clic. Me di cuenta que ese era el momento. Sabía que era verdad, y tuve que tomar una decisión. Alhamdulillah [todas las alabanzas son para Allah], Allah abrió mi corazón, y dije: “Sí. Quiero ser musulmana.” Entonces, el hombre tomó mi shahadah<\/em> [testimonio de fe] en inglés y en árabe. Juro por Dios que cuando tomé la shahadah, sentí la sensación más extraña. Sentí como si un peso físico enorme hubiera sido retirado de  mi pecho, y me faltaba el aliento como si estuviera respirando por primera vez en mi vida. Alhamdulillah, Allah me ha dado una vida nueva —una hoja en blanco—, una oportunidad para el Yanah [Paraíso], y ruego que pueda vivir el resto de mis días y morir como musulmana. L’histoire de ma conversion à l’islam est une histoire de planification; j’ai fait des plans, le groupe auquel j’appartenais a fait des plans et Allah a fait des plans.  Et Allah est le Meilleur planificateur qui soit.  Quand j’étais adolescente, je croisai le chemin d’un groupe de personnes, pour la plupart travaillant au gouvernement, qui avait pour motivation secrète d’éloigner les musulmans de leur religion.  Il ne s’agit pas d’un groupe gouvernemental, mais d’un rassemblement de personnes qui utilisent leurs différentes positions au sein du gouvernement pour faire avancer leur cause.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Un des membres de ce groupe m’approcha parce qu’il vit que j’étais articulée, motivée et très active dans la défense des droits des femmes.  Il me dit que si je m’inscrivais au programme de relations internationales avec une spécialité sur le Moyen-Orient, il me garantissait un emploi à l’ambassade américaine en Égypte.  Il souhaitait que j’y utilise ma position au sein du gouvernement pour m’adresser aux femmes musulmanes et encourager leur mouvement naissant pour la défense des droits des femmes.  Je trouvai l’idée très intéressante.  J’avais, comme tout le monde, vu des émissions, à la télé, sur les musulmanes.  Je croyais savoir qu’elles formaient un groupe de personnes très opprimées et je souhaitais plus que tout contribuer à les faire sortir de leurs ténèbres pour les faire entrer dans la lumière de la liberté du vingtième siècle.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

C’est avec cette intention que je fis mon entrée au collège et commençai mon programme de relations internationales.  En parallèle, j’étudiai également le Coran, les hadiths et l’histoire de l’islam.  J’étudiai aussi les différentes façons d’utiliser à mon avantage ces diverses informations sur l’islam.  J’appris à déformer les mots pour leur faire dire ce que je voulais qu’ils disent.  Mais tout en étudiant cette religion et les diverses techniques pour la contredire, je ne pouvais m’empêcher d’être intriguée par son message fondamental.  Tout au fond de moi-même, je trouvais ce message très sensé.  Et ça me faisait peur.  Alors, pour contrecarrer l’effet qu’avait l’islam sur moi, je m’inscrivis à un cours sur le christianisme.  Je choisis un cours en particulier, car il était donné par un professeur qui avait une très bonne réputation et qui avait un doctorat en théologie de l’Université Harvard.  Je sentis donc qu’avec lui, je serais entre bonnes mains.  Ce fut le cas, mais pas pour les raisons que je m’étais imaginé.  Je découvris que ce professeur était un chrétien unitarien; il ne croyait ni en la trinité ni en la divinité de Jésus.  Il croyait donc que Jésus n’était ni plus ni moins qu’un prophète de Dieu.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Il chercha d’ailleurs à nous démontrer la chose en nous expliquant que de nombreux versets de la Bible avaient été modifiés au fil du temps.  Il nous montra de quels versets il s’agissait et nous rapporta même les événements historiques qui avaient amené ces modifications.  À la fin de cette session, ma foi chrétienne avait totalement disparu, mais j’étais encore loin d’être sur le point d’accepter l’islam.  Au fil des mois et des années qui suivirent, je continuai d’étudier, à la fois pour moi-même et pour ma future carrière.  Cela me prit environ trois ans, au cours desquels j’interrogeai régulièrement des musulmans sur leurs croyances.  L’un de ces musulmans faisait partie de la MSA (muslim student association – association étudiante musulmane) de l’université.  Il perçut mon intérêt pour sa religion et prit sur lui-même de me transmettre le plus d’informations possible sur sa religion.  Puisse Dieu le récompenser généreusement.  Chaque fois que l’occasion se présentait, il venait me voir pour me parler d’islam.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Un jour, ce musulman me contacta et me dit qu’un groupe d’une vingtaine de musulmans visitait la ville et qu’il souhaitait que je les rencontre.  J’acceptai et l’allai à leur rencontre après la prière du soir.  On me fit une place pour que je m’assoie et un Pakistanais d’un certain âge vint s’installer face à moi.  Il connaissait très bien le christianisme et nous échangeâmes sur différents versets de la Bible et du Coran jusqu\u0092au fajr (prière de l’aube)!  C’est à ce moment-là, après que cet homme plein de sagesse eût passé la nuit à me répéter ce que j’avais déjà appris dans mon cours sur le christianisme, qu’il fit ce qu’aucun autre musulman n’avait fait jusque-là : il m’invita à embrasser l’islam.  Durant mes trois années de recherches et d’étude sur l’islam, on m’avait appris beaucoup de choses, on s’était obstiné avec moi et on m’avait même insultée, mais jamais on ne m’avait invitée à embrasser l’islam.  Puisse Dieu nous guider tous.  Lorsque cet homme le fit, donc, j’eus comme un sursaut et je compris qu’était venu le temps, pour moi, de faire ce pas en avant.  Je savais que l’islam était la vérité et je devais prendre une décision.  Dieu merci, Il ouvrit mon cœur et je m’entendis répondre : « Oui, je veux être musulmane. »  C’est alors que l’homme me fit répéter la shahada (attestation de foi), en anglais et en arabe.  En la répétant, j’eus une drôle de sensation.  Je sentis qu’un poids énorme venait de quitter ma poitrine et j’inspirai profondément, comme si je respirais pour la première fois de ma vie.  Dieu merci, mon Seigneur m’accordait une nouvelle vie, une chance d’entrer au Paradis.  Et je prie pour que, jusqu’à ma mort, je vive chaque jour en tant que musulmane et que je meurs musulmane.  Amen.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Die Geschichte, wir ich zum Islam konvertiert bin, ist eine Geschichte der Planungen.  Ich schmiedete Pläne; die Gruppe mit der ich war, schmiedete Pläne; und Allah schmiedete Pläne.  Und Allah ist der beste Planer.  Als ich Teenager war, erweckte eine Gruppe von Leuten mit einer sehr finsteren Agenda meine Aufmerksamkeit.  Sie waren und sind vermutlich ein loser Verbund von Einzelnen, die in Regierungspositionen arbeiten, aber eine besondere Agenda haben – den Islam zu zerstören.  Es ist keine Gruppe der Regierung, soweit ich mir bewusst bin, sie nutzen lediglich ihre Positionen in der US Regierung, um ihre Sache zu fördern.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Ein Mitglied dieser Gruppe kam auf mich zu, weil er sah, dass ich artikulieren kann, motiviert bin und mich sehr für Frauenrechte einsetze.  Er sagte zu mir, wenn ich Internationale Beziehungen studiere mit Schwerpunkt Mittlerer Osten, dann würde er mir einen Job in der amerikanischen Botschaft in Ägypten garantieren.  Er wollte, dass ich schließlich dorthin gehe, um meine Position in dem Land dafür zu nutzen, mit muslimischen Frauen zu reden und die jungen Frauenrechte zu fördern.  Ich fand diese Idee großartig.  Im Fernsehen hatte ich muslimische Frauen gesehen; ich wusste, dass es sich um eine arme unterdrückte Gruppe handelte, und ich wollte sie zum Licht der Freiheit des 20. Jahrhunderts führen. <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Mit dieser Absicht ging ich zum College und begann meine Ausbildung.  Ich studierte Qur´an, Hadith und islamische Geschichte.  Ich studierte auch, wie ich diese Informationen nutzen konnte.  Ich lernte, die Worte zu verdrehen, damit sie das aussagen, was ich von ihnen wollte.  Es war ein wertvolles Werkzeug.  Als ich aber anfing zu lernen, begann mich diese Botschaft zu faszinieren.  Sie ergab einen Sinn.  Das war sehr unheimlich.  Daher beschloss ich, mich in Klassen über das Christentum anzumelden, um dieser Wirkung entgegenzuarbeiten.  Ich wählte Klassen mit diesem einen Professor auf dem Campus, weil er einen guten Ruf hatte, und er besaß einen Ph.D. in Theologie von der Harvard University. Ich fühlte mich in guten Händen.  Das war ich auch, aber nicht aus den Gründen, an die ich dachte.   Es stellte sich heraus, dass dieser Professor ein Unitarier war.  Er glaubte nicht an die Trinität oder an die Göttlichkeit Jesus´.  Er glaubte tatsächlich, dass Jesus ein Prophet gewesen ist.    <\/span><\/p>\r\n

Er machte sich daran, dies zu beweisen, indem er die Bibel anhand ihrer Quellen auf griechisch, hebräisch und aramäisch nahm und zeigte, wo sie verändert worden war.  Während er dies tat, zeigte er die historischen Ereignisse, die diese Veränderungen formten und ihnen folgten.  Zu der Zeit, als ich diese Klasse abgeschlossen hatte, war mein Dien [Religion] zerstört, doch war ich noch nicht bereit, den Islam anzunehmen.  Die Zeit verging, und ich studierte weiter, für mich selbst und für meine zukünftige Karriere.  Dies dauerte ungefähr sieben Jahre.  In dieser Zeit befragte ich Muslime über ihren Glauben.  Einer von denen, die ich befragte, war ein muslimischer Bruder der MSA [Muslim Students’ Association].  Alhamdulillah, er bemerkte mein Interesse am Dien und strengte sich an, mich über den Islam zu belehren.  Möge Allah seinen Lohn erhöhen.  Er machte Dawa [d.h. erzählte mir über den Islam] bei jeder möglichen Gelegenheit, die sich bot.  <\/span><\/p>\r\n

An einem Tag kontaktierte mich dieser Mann und erzählt mir von einer Gruppe Muslime, die unsere Stadt besuchen.  Er wollte, dass ich sie treffe.  Ich war einverstanden.  Nach dem Ischa [Nacht] Gebet traf ich sie.  Ich wurde in einen Raum geführt mit mindestens 20 Männern drin.  Sie machten mir Platz zum Sitzen und ich wurde einem älteren pakistanischen Herrn gegenüber gesetzt.  Mascha Allah, dieser Bruder war sehr gelehrt in christlichen Dingen.  Er und ich diskutierten und stritten über die verschiedenen Teile der Bibel und des Qur´an bis Fagr [Frühgebet].  An diesem Punkt, nachdem ich gehört hatte, was mir dieser weise Mann erklärte, was ich bereits aus meinem Kurs über das Christentum kannte, tat er das, was kein einziger je getan hatte.  Er lud mich ein, Muslima zu werden.  In den drei Jahren, in denen ich auf der Suche gewesen bin und Nachforschungen angestellt hatte, hat mich nie jemand eingeladen.  Ich bin belehrt worden, wir stritten und ich bin sogar beleidigt worden, aber nie eingeladen.  Möge Allah uns alle rechtleiten.  Als er mich also einlud, machte es ´klick´.  Mir wurde klar, dass dies die Zeit dafür war.  Ich wusste, es war die Wahrheit und ich musste eine Entscheidung treffen.   Alhamdulillah [Aller Lobpreis gebührt Allah], Allah öffnete mein Herz und ich sagte: “Ja.  Ich möchte eine Muslima werden.“  Da wies mich der Mann an, die Schahada [das Glaubensbekenntnis] – auf Englisch und Arabisch auszusprechen.  Ich schwöre bei Allah, dass ich als ich die Schahada ausgesprochen hatte, das seltsamste Gefühl verspürt habe.  Ich fühlte mich, als wäre ein großes, physikalisches Gewicht von meiner Brust genommen worden; ich schnappte nach Luft, als würde ich zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben atmen.  Alhamdulillah, Allah hat mir ein neues Leben gegeben – einen saubere Tafel – eine Chance auf Jenna [Paradies], und ich bete, dass ich den Rest meiner Tage als Muslim lebe und sterbe.  Amin.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

A história de como me reverti ao Islã é uma história de planos.  Fiz planos; o grupo com o qual eu estava fez planos e Allah fez planos.  Allah é o melhor dos planejadores.  Quando era adolescente, chamei a atenção de um grupo de pessoas com uma agenda muito sinistra.  Eram e provavelmente continuam a ser uma associação livre de indivíduos que trabalham em posições no governo, mas têm uma agenda especial - destruir o Islã.  Não é um grupo governamental do qual esteja ciente, simplesmente usam suas posições no governo americano para levar adiante sua causa.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Um membro desse grupo me abordou por que viu que era articulada, motivada e grande defensora dos direitos das mulheres.  Falou que se estudasse Relações Internacionais com ênfase no Oriente Médio, me garantiria um emprego na embaixada americana no Egito.  Queria que fosse para lá para usar minha posição no país para falar com as muçulmanas e encorajar o ainda jovem movimento de direitos das mulheres.  Pensei que era uma grande ideia.  Tinha visto muçulmanas na TV; sabia que eram um grupo pobre e oprimido e queria levá-las para a luz da liberdade do século 20.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Com essa intenção, fui para a universidade e comecei minha educação.  Estudei o Alcorão, hadith e história islâmica.  Também estudei como poderia usar essa informação.  Aprendi a como distorcer as palavras para dizer o que queriam que dissesse.  Foi uma ferramenta valiosa.  Mas uma vez que comecei a aprender, entretanto, comecei a ficar intrigada por essa mensagem.  Fazia sentido.  Isso era muito assustador.  Assim, para neutralizar esse efeito, comecei a ter aulas de Cristianismo.  Escolhi ter aulas com esse professor no campus porque ele tinha uma boa reputação e um PhD em teologia pela Universidade de Harvard.  Senti que estava em boas mãos.  Estava, mas não pelas razões que pensei.  Mas esse professor era um cristão unitário.  Não acreditava na trindade ou divindade de Jesus.  De fato, acreditava que Jesus era um profeta.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Para provar isso tirava da Bíblia de suas fontes em grego, hebraico e aramaico e mostrava onde tinham sido mudadas.  Enquanto fazia isso, mostrava os eventos históricos que moldaram e se seguiram a essas mudanças.  Quando terminei essa aula, meu din [religião] tinha sido destruído, mas ainda não estava pronta para aceitar o Islã.  À medida que o tempo passava, continuei a estudar por mim mesma e para a minha futura carreira.  Isso levou em torno de três anos.  Nesse período questionava os muçulmanos sobre suas crenças.  Um dos indivíduos que questionei foi um irmão muçulmano com a MSA [Associação de estudantes muçulmanos].  Alhamdulillah ele viu meu interesse no din e se esforçou pessoalmente para me educar sobre o Islã.  Que Allah aumente sua recompensa.  Ele fazia dawa [ou seja, me falava sobre o Islã] a cada oportunidade que aparecia.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Um dia esse homem me contatou e falou sobre um grupo de muçulmanos que estava em visita à cidade.  Queria que eu os encontrasse.  Concordei.  Fui encontrá-los depois da oração de Isha [noturna].  Fui levada a um ambiente com pelo menos 20 homens.  Abriram espaço para eu me sentar e fui colocada frente a frente com um cavalheiro paquistanês idoso.  Mashallah, esse irmão tinha muito conhecimento em termos de Cristianismo.  Ele e eu discutimos e argumentamos as várias partes da Bíblia e do Alcorão até fajr [oração da alvorada].  Nesse ponto, depois de ter ouvido esse homem sábio me dizer o que eu já sabia, baseado nas aulas que tinha feito sobre Cristianismo, ele fez o que nenhum outro indivíduo jamais tinha feito.  Convidou-me para me tornar uma muçulmana.  Em três anos em que tinha estado buscando e pesquisando, ninguém jamais tinha me convidado.  Tinham me ensinado, argumentado comigo e até me insultado, mas nunca convidado.  Que Allah guie a todos nós.  Então, quando ele me convidou, deu um clique.  Percebi que era o momento.  Sabia que era a verdade e tinha que tomar uma decisão.  Alhamdulillah [todos os louvores são para Allah] Allah abriu meu coração e eu disse: “Sim,  quero ser muçulmana.”  Com isso o homem me levou à shahada [o testemunho de fé] em inglês e em árabe.  Juro por Allah que quando fiz a shahada senti a sensação mais estranha.  Senti como se um enorme um peso físico tivesse sido retirado de meu peito; arfei por ar como se estivesse respirando pela primeira vez em minha vida.  Alhamdulillah, Allah tinha me dado uma vida nova - uma lousa limpa - uma chance para Jannah [paraíso] e oro para que viva o resto de meus dias e morra como muçulmana.  Amém.<\/span><\/p>\r\n
